The thought of surveillance 24-7 for your whole life from cradle to grave everything being noted and chalked up and then even when you are dead no let up, it is really quite repulsive, what makes you find any of this an attractive proposition?

Pedestal42: I think the idea of a personal God is ludicrous.

Good question. I've always thought those who believe this must have abandonment issues.

U have a Distorted Idea as when a person becomes a Christian, their "Sins" are no longer to be held against them as Christ has paid the Penalty for them, past, present & future!!! Does this give Us license to Sin??? Absolutely Not!!! As U obviously don't know Christ, U also miss out on His "Indwelling" which makes Christians a "New Creation" filling Us with His Love that Surpasses all Human Understanding. Whether U like it or not, More than just God is Constantly Watching U!!! U just have a "Bone to Pick with God" & are trying to "Strike Out" at Him through Us which is rather Pathetic. John

Can I answer that as an atheist?

It's got nothing to do with being attractive
(though the ideas of heaven, eternal life, a loving father and avoiding hell do exert leverage on many)
If God exists, then that's a fact to admit, attractive or not.
(And God gets to say what's good and attractive)
If God doesn't exist the idea, attractive or not, is of limited value.
Don't knock what you see as an unattractive totalitarian God
until you are convinced on some other grounds that he doesn't exist. *If* He's there, your opinion of his nature and taste isn't going to count for much.

God isn't bad. He loves people. And he has raised people up from the dead to prove first of all that he exists. it says it very specifically in the Bible. and if you find it repulsive then you might also find Satan repulsive in hell thousands of years of rotting flesh doesn't sound like the kind of place I'd want to be. Which is where people who hate God seem to end up.
