The problem, as I see it, is that you're not actually saving your downloaded files to the history folder.

When you installed whatever program you're using to download, you were probably given the option as to where you wish to save downloaded files.

If you can remember the name(s) of any files that you have downloaded, you can do a search for them. This will, undoubtedly, give you the name of the folder/directory where the rest of your files are stored.

To do a search, click on Start (at the bottom left of your desktop) and click on Search. Decide whether it's Pictures, music, or video; Documents; or All files and folders that you wish to search.

Type in the name of the file (or part of the name) that you've downloaded, and click on Search. If you have any idea of where to look (if you have more than one hard drive, that is), you can opt to do an Advanced search. Simply click on which drive(s) you wish to search. The default is all hard drives.
