Not all the time. The reason they have the title "first to fight" is because they float around on ships all over the world ready to strike any time and place. They are what is called a MEU " Marine expeditionary unit" At any given time of the year there is at least 2 MEU's on the water, if not more. Plus the Marines have pre positioned ships floating around too. So a unit can fly over and fall in on gear. It is much faster then trying to fly over with all the needed gear.

False...the Air Force are the first to see combat. As far as ground forces go they are some of the first conventional forces on the ground but that is after the SF, Rangers, Airborne, and other secret squirrel guys have responded. This will change in future conflicts with the creation of MARSOC in 2005. The potential participation of the Marine Corps in SOCOM has been controversial since SOCOM was first formed in 1986. At the time, Marine Corps leaders felt that their Force Reconnaissance units were best kept in the Marine Corps' MAGTF command structure, and that the detachment of an "elite" Marine Special Operations unit from the Marine Corps would be to the detriment of the Marine Corps as a whole. A reevaluation following the September 11th attacks and the global war on terror, along with new policy established by Secretary Rumsfeld at the Pentagon, caused the Marine Corps to work towards integration with SOCOM.

Usually false - The Navy and Air Force typically let off the first shots of the war, dropping bombs and firing missiles. Unless of course, a Marine Aviator was the first to fly over.
But in terms of ground warfare, they're usually the first to commit large combat formations. Fast-reaction is their specialty.

true in some aspects and its false to say army navy or air force people forget all the services has jets and the navy has missle on ships. special forces might go in first but for a ground assualt vs air the marines are the first in and last out it has always been that way.

The air force and navy may drop bombs but the marines are first in and first out. Followed by the army. So it's true...to a point.

False. For instance in the first Gulf War, the U.S. Army used attack helicopters to punch holes in the Iraqi radar defense, before anybody else fired a shot. Even before that, special operations went in to place markers on targets for laser guided weapons to home in on.
The attack on Lybia was mainly done by the Navy and Airforce. In Yugoslavia, the Army and airforce were shooting first.

Ryan.. Marines did participate in the invasion of normandy. Keep in mind that the Marines also have aircraft. It is hard to say who is always first. kinda depends on the situation and who is close at hand. But I will agree with those that say special ops are usually first in.

False, the Special Forces, Delta, and probably Navy SEALs s are the first to arrive. The Air Force needs somebody to tell its bombs were to go. They need to know what to bomb and what to leave standing.
