In 2012 the center of the Galaxy is at 0 degree of the Western zodiacal sign Capricorn. 0 degree Capricorn is the point of the zodiac where the Sun is during the December solstice.
At December 21, 11.12 GMT during the December solstice the Sun is at the exact center of the Galaxy. According to the Mayas the center of the Galaxy is the cosmic womb: the place of dead, transformation, regeneration and rebirth. This moment shows the end of their calendar.
http://www.astrologycourse.org/2012.htm has lots more stuff about astrology projections for 2012.....how weird is that...on the day the mayans STOPPED their calander the sun is in the middle of the galaxy....creeeeeepy....
What do you think about it?

The alleged event is the occurrence of the Winter Solstice on the galactic equator. This doesn't have any real significance or effect, though some of the astrologers would have it otherwise. Most star atlases show this as having happened in 1999, but the exact path of the equator is fuzzy enough that 2012 falls within the error band. The actual center of the galaxy is several degrees off the ecliptic, so the Sun will never actually conjunct it. The Sun passes north of the galactic center a few days after the solstice. What this is about is the astrologers' desire to get a piece of the 2012 hysteria. That the History Channel is devoting time to this superstitious nonsense shows that they have abandoned all pretense of being reality-based.

The Galactic Center is currently at 26 deg. of Sagittarius (and a few minutes), and I'm pretty sure (in fact I'm practically 100% positive) that it doesn't move quickly enough to travel that last 4 degrees in the course of the next 5 years. I will. however check it out and come back with some links to support that.
The sun passing the Galactic Center isn't really all that big of a deal. It does so every year, every time it passes through the later degrees of Sagittarius. In fact there are probably millions of people out there who were born with their natal sun conjunct the galactic center, or other planets, luminaries, asteroids, nodes, whatever.
What is of far more interest, IMO, is Pluto's current and ongoing transit conjunct the GC. Pluto takes 250 years to travel once around the sun, and so hasn't been conjunct the GC since the 1750's. Pluto is the planet of death and rebirth, regeneration, destruction and then transformation. Queue that up with the GC, and then with 0 deg. of capricorn (the Aries point), and things could start getting interesting.
I will be back with some links that you might find interesting. It's going to take a bit, because I never bookmark anything, so I'm going to have to do a bit of hunting to find everything again.
The Galactic Center is an area of great interest to me these days.
(P.S. My avatar is a pic of the GC if you're interested in what it looks like.)

Wrong. First, the calendar doesn't end in 2012, it merely enters yet another cycle. Second, the sun will not be in the center of the galaxy. We are on the outskirts of the Milky Way. Third, the sun is in Capricorn every year during the December solstice.

I think you are spouting a load of bollocks.
The sun would need to be moved by about 50,000 light years to be at the center of the galaxy, so if we started now we would only have to move it at 10,000 times the speed of light to get there on time. (relativity withstanding)
If it just APPEARS to be at the center of the galaxy, as seen from Earth, well it does that one a year, every year.
If you believe in astrology, I have some ocean front land in Kansas I would like to sell you.
Edit:
You really are an utter pillock. If we did not live on the outskirts of the galaxy then the milky way would be wrapped evenly around the entire sky, which it is not.
Try learning some real science for a change:

It's funny how when it comes to "good" things the religions all want to take credit for it, but when it comes to bad things (end of the world) they have to turn to other sources..... the christians shouldn't give a crap about the mayan calendar..... yet they use it as an excuse to formulate the return of "the christ" and the end of the world...... even though the mayans didn't know anything about jesus and christianity didn't appear until hundreds or even thousands of years later.
And so what? the sun will be the center of the galaxy.... who cares? how is it going to have any effect on our lives or bring an end to the world or life as we know it? Ooooh wow, it's creepy!
It's ridiculous is what it is.

If you want to see where the center of our galaxy is, you have to look between the constellations Sagittarius and Scorpio. Its a long ways away from here.
If we were getting near the center of the galaxy, we would be getting sucked into a giant black hole. Maybe that is supposed to be what Revelations is talking about. Maybe everyone is going to be rising into the sky because the black hole is starting to suck them off the face of the Earth. (Boy that would really be a nasty surprise for all the Christians who are so eager to be taken up into the sky in the rapture).

The center of the galaxy undoubtedly contains a very large black hole. Luckily we are not, and in the lifetime of the Earth never will be, close to the center.
The various zodiacs are about our viewpoint from the Earth relative to the Sun and the other stars. They have nothing to do with the actual position of ourself in the galaxy.
regarding your additional notes: Yes, we are on one of the outer arms of our galaxy. We do not have to take a camera outside of the galaxy to know that, we need merely look around. That's what astronomy is about. You should maybe study it some time.

I'm not real familiar with astrology, but I do believe what you're describing simply means from our vantage point the Sun and the galactic center are in the same portion of the sky. The sun can NEVER been in the center of our galaxy. We are located far out on one of the spiraled arms, thousands of light years from the center. In addition, its believed that there is a black hole at the center of the galaxy.

Oh dear, I guess some are more deluded than others. The center of the galaxy, and so far it has been found to apply to all galaxies, is a Super Massive Black Hole.

Without research, I guess it's possible the earth could be on the "plane" that passes along the center of the galaxy, but dude, don't you know we live on the outskirts of the galaxy?
Your reply - Wow...since when have we gotten a camera out of this galaxy to take a picture of where we are?!?!?!?!
