Myth...or more accurately, an exaggerated and outdated story.

In 2003, Mars and the Moon did reach their closest point in an estimated 50,000 years on Aug. 27...and though it didn't look at all like a moon, Mars was very bright and close to the Moon. I remember watching this in Denver.

Something similar happened in 2005 but the distance between the two was much greater and Mars wasn't as bright (and I don't think it was Aug. 27 that time but could have been). So in a way, the "two moon night" emails had some element of truth four years ago, but they aren't true for tonight.

In fact, for tonight (or more accurately tomorrow morning), NASA reports that a total lunar eclipse will be occur between 2:52 and and 4:22 AM (PDT) that will be widely visible in the US and Canada...no double moons but a total eclipse of the moon is pretty cool...if you're blessed with a clear sky tonight, it might be worth a look (I'm stuck with cloudy and an 80% chance of rain tonight).

Last night or tonight either one have been referenced, but this is in fact a hoax (or maybe just a misunderstanding).

Mars came exceptionally close to Earth on August 27, 2003. Every year since then, this claim has circulated. Perhaps this is simply because some of the announcement emails passed around in 2003 didn't mention a year...

Coincidentally, we are in for some spectacular moon viewing tonight between 1:50 and 4:20 am (pacific time), when folks in the western portion of North America will have front row seats for a total lunar eclipse.

learn about the planet Mars on Wednesday evening, August 27, from 8:30-11:00 PM. On that date, Mars will be closer to Earth than at any time since the year 57,617 BC (59,620 years ago). Mars will be about 34,646,418 miles from Earth on that day.

It was also predicted on Aug 27, 2003, and Aug 27, 2006...

Even when Mars was close, 8/27/2003, it looked like a big star.

Tonight there is a lunar eclipse, but it is only going to be fully visible in California and places north and south thereof.

Tonight is a rare type of lunar eclipse. During its high-point, the moon will look blood red. This type only happens every 7 years. Is it a sign? Maybe:

Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.

However, the "two moon" story is a myth.

Snopes made it clear that the posting is several years out of date.

In fact mars is no where near its nearest point (every other year it gets close) and some parts of the world will be experiencing a lunar eclipse.

Mars willnever look bigger than a bright star. The idea that it will be as big as the moon is pure BS invented and passed on by the internet rumor mill.

Yep, it's a myth.
Mars is never close enough to show up as anything larger than a bright star.

Unless,of course, the planets are all spiralling out of control, in which case two moons would be the least of our worries..

A red moon has the same significance as a river turned to blood. It signifies lack of charity.

However, it is only there to let you meditate on the spiritual idea of lack of charity, it does not have any relation to erroneous end of world theory.
