People are going to tell you no but I TELL YOU YES! They will make a difference but if you cannot swing or just plain golf properly it won't help. That's the catch. If you can swing the club the right way and golf the right way better newer clubs will help.

First off, a well fitted set of clubs will outperform a set of off the rack clubs, so if they weren't fitted to you, then they will absolutely not outperform a set you have fitted. If you're a low handicapper, and the clubs are a fitted set of blades or player's cavity backs (very little offset) you will not notice a huge difference with new clubs. You may very well like a new set of better quality, newer clubs though, and the mental aspect alone could help you play better.

If you're a higher handicapper, there are lots of clubs with more technology that will make the game easier than anything sold 10 years ago (Callaway Fusions come to mind). See what's out there, and try what you can find. Unless you're looking for something uber-cheap (under $400), there are a lot of choices for new clubs that you can have fit and will most likely outperform what you're using.

What is your golf handicap? Can you break 90 in score? Can you break 80? If you shoot regularly in the low 80’s, then you probably know how to shape shots. I think this one of the most legitimate reasons to buy new irons.

Are you 10 year old Cobras, cavity back clubs? Because of ignorance, I learned golf on 10 year old Mizunos. They were great clubs, but they were blades! No beginning golfer can learn golf with blades.

Generally if you shoot above 90s, any cavity back clubs will “perform” to your swing and ability. It’s also really personal style and taste. The look, feel and sound of a club are all different to different people. I love my PINGs but can’t stand my friend’s Mizuno’s even though they probably both good sets of clubs.

Technology has improved vastly in the last 10 years so newer clubs are better.

most of that is just mental. Not much difference between your 10 yr. old king cobras, and newer clubs.
