I've had it for about 7 weeks and 3 days. Instructions say to leave it in for 8-12 weeks but I had been neglecting to clean it so i decided to take it out to give it a thorough cleaning only to discover a small bump surrounding back side of the piercing. Its maybe 1/8 inch or less. Its squishy and may be filled with pus. What is this bump? In about 2 weeks I will need to remove it because I am leaving for Navy basic training. Should I just take it out now and let it get air or leave it in until the bump goes away? Will the bump ever go away? If I take it out will the area close with whatever the bubble is still trapped inside? What should I do?

the bump is either a keloid, or hypertrophic scarring. Since you neglected to clean your piercing for some reason and it's squishy, it sounds to be a keloid. If you go to a piercing shop and show them, they should be able to help you out. Your doctor can too. Some places have chili oils (don't make it yourself, it's not what it sounds) that you can put on the bump to make it diminish.

The bump won't go away by simply taking out the piercing, but it may get smaller.

Piercing cartilage takes months to fully heal. Mine took about a year before it healed. The bump sounds like it is infected (if it hurts when you push it) and if you need to take out the earring anyway, do it now and squeeze the "junk" out of the opening. Put some solution (peroxide) you got with your piercing on it..It will heal quickly. Some bumps are just blood clots or the cartilage was damaged when pierced and is normal. You know, if you need to take out the earring so soon, it may close. Good luck whatever you do and joing the forces..Anchors away my boy....

Put rubbing alcohol all around the piercing while leaving the earring in your ear. Then move the earring around a bit so the alcohol gets into the piercing. If you remove the earring now it might close up. Unfortunately I have had a couple friends say they had a bump that never went away. Good luck in basic training!

as is common when you pierce cartilaginous tissue you have likely developed a keloid scar, it's permanent. The hole will likely close up while you are in basic and if you want to have it when you get out of basic, you will have to repierce and that will likely make the keloid larger. Suggest you learn from your mistake and leave well enough alone.

IT'S NORMAL!! I have it too. I does eventually go away but it might take a few years. I know if feels weird. Mine always got infected so i eventually took it out. I still have the holes but the bumps went down. Hopefully yours don't look as bad as they feel.
