Honey, Im 76 and my taste buds are still in good shape. Its a good thing too, cause Im not happy with the shape that the rest of me is in. As for the folks who lose their sense of taste, thats one sign of alzheimers.

I don't think you lose taste buds, but all the senses seem to dull as we age. Probably through years of abuse like burning your tongue on hot foods or smoking or drugs the sense of taste is less accute.

yes, which is why adults can tolerate stronger-tasting food. the sweet taste buds are the last to go which is why the elderly love sweets.

I have never heard of that.. I would think if you would start losing your sense of smell you would loose your sense of taste.

My mom did she cant taste anything whether it be spicy or hot or cold. she cant taste flavor or nothing, the doctor said it was the meds she is on but i am not sure.

No, but your sense of smell diminishes and with less smell comes less taste.
Cigarettes do that too.
