Frequent heartburn, especially, 5 times a week is not good. But, certain foods can irritate the stomach. Spicy, fried foods, caffeine, citrus fruits. Have you been seen by a medical professional?? Constant heartburn can irritate your esophagus ( the tube the leads from the mouth into the stomach). You mention that you've been like this for almost a decade. This is way too long to be having this, in addition, you are too young. You need to be evaluated by your Doc and SOON. There may be an underlying cause for your heartburn. I hope that this helps and Good Luck !

Go see a gastroenterologist, they may want to scope you to see if there is a larger problem. If you were diagnosed by anyone other than a gastroenterologist and didn't have a thorough exam (just given meds for your profession of heartburn, without other symptoms mentioned or asked about) I would see one as quickly as possible and make sure you were properly diagnosed or that things haven't changed. I also get my GERD really bad if I forget a dose or two, but we are all different and you should be checked out. Do not try any home remedies before asking a Doc, some "natural" cures can thin your blood, or cause other biological reactions that could hurt you worse if you would have a bleeding ulcer or other problems.

I had a weird heartburn thing happen to me. It was constant, constant pain and it didn't seem to matter what I ate or not. Tums didn't help (helps with too much acid in the stomach) vinegar didn't help (helps with too little acid in the stomach) and I didn't know what to do. I talked with a holistic doctor and he told me that it sounded like I was salt deficient. He said salt is necessary for proper digestion, and especially if you drink a lot of water- like I was - salt is water soluble out of the body so you have to replace it. I was like what? but I started putting salt on all my food to where I could taste it because I was so desperate for the pain to stop. Good news is that it did. The pain totally went away...no more heartburn. I don't know if this is your condition or not, but not a lot of people seem to know that you can be salt deficient and get digestive problems because of it. Oh, and another thing he told me-it's best to use sea salt because the iodide they add to table salt can be overdosed on and give you symptoms including high blood pressure.

Chronic heartburn is usually from acid reflux - stomach acid is getting past the little valve and into your esophagus. You also should know some natural ways to treat your heartburn. Learn them here https://bitly.im/aMAjS
The most immediate thing you can do is to stop drinking coffee and cola. Smoking is not good either, but that might be harder to stop. Don't over-eat. Don't lie down too soon after eating. Don't burp too much - this carries acid up with the burp.
heartburn the most common symptom of acid reflux disease (also known as gastroespohageal reflux disease, or GERD). Heartburn feels like a burning pain in the center of the chest. It is caused by acid from the stomach backing up into the esophagus. is a symptom of acid reflux disease (GERD) Also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Hi Joe, try taking digestive enzymes before every meal, this helps much more than medication.
Stay away from caffeinated drinks if possible, they cause heartburn.
Don't smoke
Add more fruit and vegetables to your diet. Review the list of inflammatory foods and see if your diet is high in these, they would all add to your heart burn.
All these things should help you, if not, then see a doctor but in my experience doctors don't do much for heart burn.

Owie!
You need to see a doctor for a diagnosis. If this has been going on since you were only 9, you've got a whole lot of damage to deal with.
I do have a suggestion in the meanwhile: Get a supply of papaya enzyme tablets from your local health store. My husband also has something that acts a lot like acid reflux, but he can't take Prilosec: It makes him ill. The tablets do work: I've used them a few times when my own tummy started getting uncomfortable.
Good luck!

My husband had the same thing. I got him off greasy foods for about 2 weeks. Nothing but salads, vegetables, water, and ingress chicken. It help him a lot. He still gets them on occasions. 2 a month or so but better than everyday.
