I got a response from someone that criticized my question....saying I should worry less about this, and I should be doing that. And I was in the entertainment section! How do you deal with idiots like that?

Ignore them. I know it's hard--it's a natural response to want to write them back and chew them out, but that's what they want. If you write them back or pay them any mind, you've made them happy and they win. Ignore them and then block them. They're not worth your time.

Well, your best bet is to actually consider the validity of it. Who knows, it might give you a perspective you never saw before-- EVEN if it was rude.

I for one DO try to look at the bigger picture. Often that means steeping back and not specifically answering a question but saying "why ask that-- isn't this more the real question". I don't intend it to be rude but I'm sure some people take it that way. I have a creative profession and am in the habit of challenging the typical perspective.

Assume that they were honestly just trying to be helpful.

You can pick and choose what advice you actually use, of course. The more answers you get, the more likely you are to find something that is suitable for your needs, even if most of them are way off.

These boards to get a lot of trolls and trouble makers, of course, but the only effective way of dealing with those kinds of people is to ignore them (or report abuse, if appropriate). I think, overall, though, that people really are just trying to be helpful. They don't know you. They don't know exactly what you're asking for. They're just trying to help.

Edit: I went back to read your question to see if my reply to this question was way off. The people that say there are more important things to worry about annoy me. Of course there are more important things to worry about! That doesn't mean we can't be curious about other things. Sheesh! Just ignore posters like that...

It's not really worth it to get into arguments with people like that. Alot of people go through these questions with the sole purpose of trying to insult or start trouble. If you're drawn into it with them, you'd be letting them win. Be the better person and ignore them :-)

Some people are incapable of 'answering' the question and mistake it for an opportunity to make assumptions and spew opinions about the asker.

Ignore the fools.

Pick your battles. This is not something worth your time, effort, or brain power. Just forget about it. It's like elementary school, some people are obnoxious just to get a rise out of people.

Just ignore them, or report them if you feel there is a good enough reason. YA is full of rude people, unfortunately. It's hard at first, but then you kind of get used to it.

Incredible. I read the question... Don't know why you'd get rude answers it was just curiosity.
I've given some pretty nasty answers, but even I wouldn't have been nasty to that one. I don't care, don't know what you were talking about, so I wouldn't bother to answer at all.

I don't.

Really, I just ignore them and go one. I figured out that to keep my sanity that: It is NOT my job to teach other adults manners. So I just ignore rudeness.
