Barnes Willis was the sole inventor of the Bouncing Bomb!

"While he could not have done this work without the assistance of the British armament industry every retelling of the development of this weapon seems to imply that he was the sole inspiration behind the building of these bombs."

What utter rot is stated in the above quote; Barnes did the work himself, most of it in his own lab, if anything he was hindered along the way trying to prove it would work by the old boy network that controlled the British Arms Industry.

Anything new and unconventional in the armament industry was viewed with lots of suspicion.

[Sir] Barnes Wallace was the inventor of the Bouncing Bombs used by the RAF's 617th Bomb Squadron to destroy several Ruhr River dams during World War II. While he could not have done this work without the assistance of the British armament industry every retelling of the development of this weapon seems to imply that he was the sole inspiration behind the building of these bombs.

So pivotal was his role in the development that he was inconsolable over the lose of the aircrews shot down in this mission.

Barnes Wallace was the sole inventor of the bouncing bomb, along with the "geodetic" type of aircraft construction (Wellington bomber, R101), the Earthquake bomb and in later years designed a supersonic transport aircraft, which failed to go into production.
