Woke up this morning to a loud noise my son got out of his crib. Not exactly sure how he did it, he isnt that tall the crib hits him high chest. There wasnt anything that he used to stand on. I am just really worried now that he will fall out and hurt himself. Do i switch him to a toddler bed or is there anything else i can do? Thanks

If you already have the crib lowered as far as it will go, I would check into alternatives. A toddler bed would be one - the caution with that is you need to fully baby proof the nursery (if you haven't already) because the child will be in there alone every night and able to get up and move around. Since it sounds like he is a climber - you will want to get brackets for all the furniture so it won't tip on him if he climbs on it.

You can also get rails for a bed so they don't just roll out.

Another option would be to try a crib net or other similar products.

The biggest thing is to keep them safe! If he can crawl out of the crib - then he may fall and hurt himself.

Good luck!

What a little monkey! I've used the same, very deep crib with all four of my kids and not one has ever been able to climb out. You either need a new crib that's lower to the ground or it's time to switch to a toddler bed. I'd be switching the crib but that's just me. I just answered a question about when a child should be out of the crib and I have big safety concerns with a little one being loose at night. Just decide what's best for you and your baby. Good luck :)

You are so lucky he wasn't hurt. My DD was able to do this around the same age and we ended up in the hospital for stiches. I would suggest moving him to a toddler bed most come with rails so they won't roll out and if they do climb out they are so low he won't hurt himself.

It does take a little bit to transition him from the crib to a toddler bed but you can set them up in the same room and start by him napping in his bed and putting him in his crib at night. After he gets used to napping in his bed put him in it at night and see how he does. If he is restless move hime back to the crib and try again the next night. This process will take a week or two depending on how well he deals with changes, but it is a much safer alternative than having him climbing out of his crib at all hours of the night.

1st make sure that the mattress is at the lowest setting. If it already is, you can get a crib tent that can go over the top of the crib (you can purchase it at toysrus). 14 months is a little young to take out of the crib.
My little ones didn't start climbing out until around 2 & switched them to toddler beds at that point.

I had the same problem. There are couple of things you can try.

You can try moving him to toddler bed, with the little guards on the side to prevent him from rolling out or you can also get "netting" that goes over the crib. I don't know exactly what it's called but you can usually get that at Babies R Us or any baby retail store.

Hope this helped.

I think it's about time to switch your little climber to a taddler bed, so he won't get hurt from falling when he climbs out of his crib.

If you can't afford a toddler bed right now, just move the crib matress to the floor.

My little sister used to do this also, you can move onto a toddler bed, but until then what my mom did was pad the floor around his crib at night just in case. She used couch cusions, pillows, whatever was soft that would catch the fall. Amazingly she never fell out, she was always able to hold on and sort of swing herself down

We then switched my daughter to a toddler bed. She did surprisingly well and it's so much safer.

However, if you're not ready to give up the crib, try onestepahead.com, they have a great mesh crib tent that will keep him in the crib and safe :)

I'd go right to a twin bed, put the box spring on the floor so bed is close to the floor and get a rail they are great Target sells really awesome ones for around $20.00. Toddler beds are cute, but not worth the extra money. Put a portable gate at the bedroom door and make sure there is nothing in his room to get hurt on.

I would get a crib tent! I have one for my 15 month old, and its AWESOME. I personally wouldnt recommend a toddler bed yet, I would be too afraid of him getting out of bed at night and hurting himself. The crib tent is really a wonderful solution, they cant escape from the crib, and you can go to bed with peace of mind knowing they cant climb out. Its saved my sanity at night!
