Montreal is. It is the urban core of this countries second largest province and a major cultural centre. Canada's third city is CALGARY in the respect that it is the third most populated and the dominant urban centre of the west.

In contrast Vancouver is just one of many cities that make up the urban south-west corner of British Columbia. Taken together this area has a unique niche in Canada as the major Pacific port and gateway to the Pacific and could easily be considered a collective entity with huge sway on the national politcal scene but always remember Vancouver is only PART of that phenomenon.

PS: Will you Vancouverites stop feeding us that crap about being the best place to live. You only ever get that distinction because your political structure manipulates the numbers so that the lifestyle of all the poor working jerks that commute in from Surrey and Pitt Meadows everyday isn't considered and the leisured lifestyle of the urban professionals is.

It's still Montreal. You know how Goring said, "When I hear "culture" I release the safety catch on my Browning!"- in Vancouver they reach for their skis. I'm not knocking Vancouver, it's just too nice a place too ever get really "urban".

Neither, Chilliwack rules!!! Just kidding, I suppose Montreal if you look at size and events. Vancouver though on the natural wonders within a short drive.
