You calculate it as follows:
- You have to pick 5 numbers out of 55, and one red ball number out of 42.

The number of combinations of 5 out of 55 is
55C5 = (55!)/(50!*5!) = 3,478,761

multiply that by the number of red balls (42) to get the total number of powerball combinations.
