Civilians (as in MOD Civil Servants) do not get "drafted" to Iraq - although you can volunteer to go if you want - there are MOD civilian jobs over there.
Perhaps you should check out a bit more about your Terms and conditions of service BEFORE you start working for them though!!

Fear not.
I have worked as a civilian for the RAF for a few years, and as I had not taken the oath of allegiance to the sovereign, I was not obliged to take an active posting, but rather to remain as as I was, a comms. bloke based in the UK.
Only if you join up, and wear the uniform, have you the obligation to go where you are told. As a civvie, you can walk away and get a different job if you object. No problem.
Bob.

You wouldnt go out to fight in the streets of Basrah. You might be sent out to theatre to support the MOD though. You wouldnt be anywhere near the frontlines and would be in about as much danger as you are on the streets in th UK.
You might be working in embassies or consulates.
Dont worry about it though. If they offer you a job they will explain all the possibilities to you. It all depends really on what area you will be working in.
99% of MOD civillian staff work in civvie jobs in this country or in foreign countries with a major British military presence, Germany, Canada etc.

No. We dont need half of the civilians that work for the MOD here in the UK. Just for a laugh, tell us what job you are applying for so we can see if you would be needed on operations.

If you join as a civilian you will not have to go to war. You will have to sign the Official Secrets Act though. I suppose it is possible you might be asked to support the troops in a civilian capacity anywhere.

Your T&C's of employment will tell you if it is a 'mobile' post. Generally the lower the grade the less likely to be mobile.
