When it comes to losing weight, there is no magical answer. Despite all the products available that promise quick and safe weight loss, the truth is that the only way to lose weight is to exercise more and to watch what you eat. There are, however, some shortcuts for those who do not have the time or the commitment to go into an organized weight loss program.

The first step to lose weight is to cut all unnecessary calories from your diet. Experts estimate that people consume an average of 15 percent of their daily calories in the form of soft drinks, gourmet coffee drinks, and alcoholic beverages. Just by reducing or eliminating these products from your diet, you can lose weight quickly and easily.

Another thing you can do to lose weight is to move more. If joining a gym is out of the question, try to find ways to incorporate exercise into your daily routine: walk rather than taking the bus, ride a bike with the kids, or walk Fido an extra mile. Even cleaning the house can help you lose weight if you do it with a passion.

An easy trick to lose weight without feeling deprived is to divide your daily calories into several small meals. This keeps your blood sugar stabilized, which in turn controls appetite. Balancing meals with a 40-30-30 proportion of vegetables, grains, and proteins also helps, as the body will get the proper fuel it needs to work for a longer period of time. Skipping meals, especially breakfast, does not help to lose weight. In fact, people who skip meals tend to overeat later in the day.

While water itself is not a fat burner, drinking water can help you lose weight in two different ways. First, thirst is often confused with hunger, and hydrating your body can often make you feel satiated. Second, water regulates many functions in the body, helps with digestion, and fills up your stomach, so you are less likely to overeat.

Finally, the most important thing you can do to lose weight is not to use food as therapy. If you are feeling bored, sad, or anxious, find an activity that will take your mind off your problems, but do not use food as comfort. Be mindful of what you eat and when and the weight will start coming off by itself.

First of all, never look for fast weight loss.
Try to eat 6 small meals a day. This helps your metabolism. Also, eat a small meal as soon as you wake up each day. When your body has been fasting for 14 hours, when you don't eat breakfast you body thinks you're out of food and stores all the fat that it can so you can survive. Jogging, biking, swimming, or dancing are good aerobics.

A Possible Schedule:

1. When you wake up :1 1/2 cup bowl low sugar cereal
2.11:00 - bowl of carrots and an apple
3. 2:00 - bowl of brown rice
4. 5:00 - pasta meal w/ yogurt
5. 8:00 - 2 hard boiled eggs

Follow the general flow of the intake of fruits, vegatables, grains, and dairy. When you drink a large glass of water with each meal, it fills you up 2-3x faster. That helps hunger craving control.

First of all, remember that if you really want to lose weight you need to make a real commitment, and realize that it's going to take time and you can't lose a lot of weight immediately.

I would suggest using a site such as http://www.thedailyplate.com/ where you can enter your height and weight information, and can count the calories that you take in (eat) and the calories that you burn through various exercises.

Try to make some healthier choices when eating (ie eat some fruit and veggies instead greasy and fatty fast foods) and add some exercise to your daily routine.

Good luck :)

Walk, walk, walk then drink plenty of water. Bread and other carbohydrates in the morning and at lunch. Try to reduce your hunger pains by drinking water. A Grapefruit, banana and a Protein drink will reduce your waist size. Take the stairs when possible. Find buddies with similar weight concerns to walk with you.

Stay away from Soda, Pre-made ice tea. Just really watch what you eat.

Walking can lead to running or cycling later on down the line.

Think thin and good luck.

Here are a few tips:

1. You MUST exercise if you want to lose weight and keep it off, so do something every day, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk around the neighborhood. Don’t say you don’t have time for exercise; you have to MAKE time. Yes, it takes time and effort, but you’re worth it, right?

2. Walk as much as you want, but don’t do cardio for more than 40 minutes at a time. If you do, you risk burning muscle instead of fat.

3. If you do strength training, use light weights and do lots of repetitions. That’ll really help you “tone up.”

4. Your diet will make you or break you. You have probably learned bad eating habits over time (most people do). That’s not your fault, but now you have to deal with it. Make a commitment to yourself to unlearn those bad habits and re-learn better habits.

5. Eat breakfast every day within an hour of getting up. People who don’t are 450% more likely to be overweight.

6. Eat six small meals or snacks per day instead of three squares per day or one big meal per day. Your body expends energy digesting your food, so eating smaller portions more often keeps your metabolism running high because you’re constantly digesting food.

7. Avoid these as much as possible:

-- Trans fat (any type of partially or fully hydrogenated oil)
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks are LOADED with it)
-- Fast food
-- Junk food
-- White sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes
-- The deadly C’s (cookies, cakes, candy, chips, cola)

8. Build your diet around these trim-body-friendly foods:

-- Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Fresh vegetables (green is GREAT!!!)
-- Dairy products (as long as they’re low-fat or non-fat)
-- Eggs
-- Lean meats (fish and poultry top the list)
-- Olive oil
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruits (anything that ends in “berry” is a winner)
-- Tea (green tea or black pekoe tea)
-- Cold water or ice water (your body has to expend extra calories to heat it up)

9. Desserts and treats are the exception, not the rule. Having said that, however, (1) you can have a couple of pieces of chocolate every day – just don’t overdo, and (2) Allow yourself one “cheat meal” every week where you eat and drink whatever you want as long as you don’t gorge yourself. That’ll help keep you from feeling deprived and it’ll make it easier to stick with your new healthy eating plan.

Good luck!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

At 13 you are still growing, it is hard to give advice to a girl your age without knowing the whole picture. you need to have a physical from your doctor to make sure there is no metabolic reason you are gaining weight, like your thyroid, that could be the reason. If you have an under active thyroid you could be gaining weight and you just need to balance that thyroid and then diet and exercise and your weight could be under control. Ask your mom to take you to the doctor. I hesitate to give you advice until that is taken care of.
