Bristol, Boring Valley
I can not believe that I did not watch the entire race, from "Thunder Valley". 2 races that are a must see on TV are Bristol and Martinsville. Gees. what happened? I'll tell you what happened. NASCAR sold out to Corporate America, Greenbacks. What the hell was their intent, to loose their fan base that made them what they are today. Well, they have succeeded. The 3 grooves at Bristol made this racetrack another Atlanta, long and boring racing. Oh, excuse me if I bumped you. Clean shaven, nice words, dockers, and on occasion, neckties. Good bye NASCAR. Last year, it was because too many drivers were worried about screwing up and losing their spot in the points race. This year, it was because Kasey Kahne (seriously!) thoroughly dominated the first three-quarters of the event, then Carl Edwards took over from there. Frankly, it was so boring I am taking back all the great things I've ever said about the night race at Bristol and will only start saying them again when the race is good again.Where was the fire? Where was the intensity? And don't bring up those cautions and late wrecks. A race that is boring for the first 95 percent and interesting for the last five is still boring. These guys realize they were on TV, right?

I totally agree with ya! They have really messed things up with this new surface and I am beginning to wonder when will NASCAR wake up and see that they are ruining a perfectly good product. Side-by-side racing is becoming nonexistent and a race where second place is two or three seconds behind is normal. I was there Saturday night too, and I am beginning to think I will let my Bristol tickets go. That race sucked, no action at all! The new "car of tomorrow" also will drag the sport down even further. That politically correct piece of sh!* is just anothes IRL or Formula 1 type of machine. I don't know about you but I liked when the different makes of cars were different and ond make may have had an advantage over another make. I love NASCAR racing with all my heart and I am afraid it is just flushing itself down the toilet.

Bristol was not like the race of the past because of the new surface that is true.
It was still a good race though. Just not as many accidents/crashes.
Hang in there in a couple of years the track will be like the track of old. You'll see

Yeah, it was alittle on the dull, side we had a few crashes, but its the COT, and new surface and wider track, and the tire compound that they used...and lets not forget its Crunch Time, theres a points race going on to get in chase, no one is going to do anything stupid...Just like Harvick and Montoya going at each other, they sure did put the cameras on them alot maybe they were hoping for some major contact, even they behaved, last thing Happy needed was to have contact with Montoya and the two of them get into, and end up getting fines and losing points... I thought the Busch race on friday night had more action...

I asked the same question not three hours ago and I have a new theory.
I honestly think that it's ESPN's fault. For one thing they have a serious man-crush on Juan Pablo Montoya. It seems like every time I looked up they were hanging on JPM's car for minutes at a time.
ESPN also seems very reluctant to show the leaders of the race. It is always, "a great battle for 16th place!" Meanwhile the lead has changed and the only way to know it is the ticker.
Finally, Rusty Wallace was a pretty good driver but not so great in the booth. Kyle Petty was MUCH better on TNT. Say what you will about Fox's coverage but it was FAR superior to ESPN's. I hope its just growing pains.

I can't believe you found Bristol a boring race/place. As a fan of racing, I prefer the short tracks over Dega/Daytona/Etc. There is a lot of action taking place at tracks like Bristol.
Well all I can say is, "To each there own".

ESPN's director isn't a race director . . . so we get to see two shots of four cars racing for positions 4,5, 12,13. ESPN's coverage has gotten better, but moving from bad to not as bad isn't very good. At this rate ESPN coverage will be great in six years.
Sept. 16, ABC takes over . . . with decades of Indy car coverage at ABC, hopefully the coverage will get better.
Bristol's wider track opened the track up.
But none of the top 15 drivers wanting to lose points tended to close the track back down again.
The COT isn't very good.
Is it Car Of Tomorrow, or Cut One more Tire?

You my son are not a true Nascar fan... To only watch racing to see wrecks, fire, and fighting is almost as bad as what Michael Vick did. Go watch something w/ physical contact like Football, or MMA if you want that brutality.. Respect the racing aspect of NASCAR jackasses.

Its called points racing. No one wants to get out of line and lose points.
