What people speak in their homes is their business but it should be law that NO government documents should be in anything but English and NO government office should recognize any language but English.
There should be no information going to the government or coming from it that is not in English. In other words it should be the official and only language of the government.

Speaking more than one language is a good thing. Recent immigrants of course can not be expected to speak English fluently, however they should make every effort to learn as soon as possible. That being said how can it be that voting ballots or instructions have to be printed in God knows how many foreign languages. If you can vote you have to be citizen. To become a citizen you have to have lived here for at least 5 years. Anyone who after 5 years has not learned enough English to at least cast an intelligent vote is either too lazy or too stupid and should probably go back to wherever they came from.

I do believe that the official language of the United States should be English, however I don't think it is necessary to speak ONLY English. People in this country are free to use whatever language they choose in their own homes and with their own families and friends, but when necessary every U.S. citizen should know English and should be expected to be able to communicate using English. The days of "Press 1 for English" and having signs in English and Spanish should be over.

Obviously, it has been understood in this country since it's inception that English is the common language.
Our money is printed in English, our road signs, our public schools up until very recently were only taught in English- all of our emergency warning systems operate in English.

Being multilingual is great- it's obviously something our great influx of immigrants had better become proficient at if they are to succeed in this country.

People cans speak anything they want.. but
English should always be the only official language.
In Canada the official languages are english and french... the government recognizes there are other languages people speak but if they want to get service they must speak one of the two languages other wise they are left out of the loop because of there own ignorance not to learn our language

Only if we want to remain "one nation." If we fail to speak the same language, as would be required by law as it pertains to government, schools and business, then we will fail to be able to communicate and this will lead to a breakdown in our society which will lead to further division and ultimately to the disintegration of America as we know it.

It's funny that the liberals, by promoting what they call diversity and tolerance, are intentionally promoting the destruction of American society. My family immigrated to the United States. We spoke German. We assimilated and some of us even fought in the American Revolution not to mention every War since America's founding.

There is nothing wrong with speaking a foreign language. In fact, it helps in diplomacy and in business. But if we want to destroy America all we have to do is let a few immigrants dictate to us that they should be allowed to fail to assimilate into our culture.

They came to America knowing we speak English. If they don't like America I'll show them the door.

English should be the official language and all classes (except for foreign language or foreign studies classes) should be taught in English. All government actions should be English only. Otherwise, it's fine to speak another language. Practicallly the whole world is learning English. So why do we have holdouts -- primarily Mexico that refuse to learn English but demands that we learn Spanish? Why is Mexico willing to learn Chinese but not English? I think these facts tell us a great deal about loyalties and lack thereof and motives.

It depends on how much confusion you want to generate in society, note there is enough mis-understanding with one language. with more then one language you can at least keep the country divided, thus making it a weaker country. With many trying to distroy this country it is no wonder they want us divided.
