It was on my birthday - July 14. I was working at the Air Canada facility at the extreme west end of Cote Vertu Blvd. The storm drains couldn't handle all the water and they were backing up into the warehouse and hangars. I remember seeing a transformer on a Hydro pole being struck by lightning and exploding. Cote de Liesse (Autoroute 520) was completely flooded as was the Autoroute 13 tunnel under the airport. There was a lot of water on Cote Vertu and Montee de Liesse, so it was difficult to even leave work. I managed to get through on Chemin St. Francois (I think that was the name of the road) just before the underpass under Autoroute 13 filled up with water. When I finally got home my wife was wondering why I was so late. The storm had barely hit our area (off island to the west). We watched the news that night on CTV and saw video of firemen rescuing people from the "Decarie Ditch".

I was in Montreal all that time, and I don't remember any particular major flooding. That would have been my first year of college, and I was taking the train into Montreal from Laval.

I recall a massive rainfall that flooded part of Highway 20 in Lachine and Decarie near Jean Talon. There was also a rainfall flood of the St. Remi Tunnel. And finally, right after they redesigned the Rockland Center interchange, that flooded up. Ironically, I think that was to alleviate traffic and help keep the roadway clear.

I think it was in July, and in fact I'm semi-convinced it was on my mother's birthday, July 15th. Decarie was a canal, and wasn't Cote-St-Luc an island within the island?
