I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is.
What about you?

For Dead-Elves;
"Faith is believing in something when common sense tells you not to."

This is not my personal quote, yall. It's a quote, by someone else, to make you think. No one, in my opinion, should be a slave to any God, but to be themselves, or else God cannot truly love. Did Mohammad, Buddha, dare call themselves God? Only Jesus Christ called himself equal to God.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking...
1.) But which god do you pick? There have been THOUSANDS throughout human history, and they're all equally likely to be the "right" one -- they've ALL had their prophets, and their devoted believers with divine revelations, and miracles performed in their name. By what criteria do you choose?
2.) You're also forgetting the quality of your own life you forgo by devoting time and energy to worshipping your god of choice -- Sunday mornings and 10% of your earnings that you'll never get back if you believed in a god who wasn't there.
3.) Belief isn't something you can CHOOSE to have. You sound like Winston Smith in "1984", desperately trying to convince yourself that two and two make FIVE. Pascal's Wager only works if PRETENDING to believe is what your god wants -- otherwise, what omniscient god is going to fall for your little act?

You'd better hope you lived it the way the RIGHT god wanted you to live it. If you've been following the wrong god, the right god might be darn angry at you. I on the other hand may get a pass for not claiming to know things I don't know.

*DRINK*
Atheist's Wager:
You should live your life and try to make the world a better place for your being in it, whether or not you believe in God. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent God, he may judge you on your merits coupled with your commitments, and not just on whether or not you believed in him.

I have no problem with your decision to conduct your behavior in compliance with your religious philosophy. Whoever presented the concept that each of us has a responsibility to provide assistance for those less fortunate, had the right idea. We all have the obligation to "do the right thing". That is the message all of us are born with.

I would rather live my life not worrying if their is a God and living life as a good person regardless, than to die and find out a Bible verse was mistranslated....

What about if the God your living for isn't the God that exists? What do you do then? That is why Pascals Wager is flawed.

Then you're just deluding yourself.
If there is a god, then what are the chances you can fool it with such weak faith? Wouldn't he/she/it prefer the honesty of those who do not claim to believe when they can't force themselves to have faith?

I couldn't be that dishonest with myself. I prefer to be true to myself rather than hedge my bets. Besides, I can't "make" myself believe anything if the evidence clearly argues against it.

You need to remember that "god" is nothing more than a nonsense word created by man to explain away all of the things we can't yet understand.
