All this talk about what number he should be now and it keeps coming up like 81, 82 or something like that etc. Anyways, I have not read ONE article about the number 3. Is every reporter scared to bring it up. Does another team own it? I think if he can not be 8 he should be 3.

Hendricks doesn't have the number 3. And Junior said he really isn't ready for that number at this stage of his life.

Here it is THE PERFECT SOLUTION TO THE # PROBLEM Think this through. Jr is going to Hendrick where there is the #5 open--- He cant use the #3 -- or the #8 so why not use the #53 because 5+3=8 for the first reason and the #53 is not in use for the 2nd reason but the most important reason is the #53 could signify that Jr is 5 times worse of a driver than his dad was who drove the #3 A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN. GO DALE JR. DRIVE THAT #53

After Big E died, Childress Racing stated that the Number 3 would not be used again on a Black GM Goodwrench car... and since NASCAR assigns numbers to teams with Childress having first claim to the number it's not likely that the number will again be used in "NEXTEL Cup" competition.

It's thought that the Existing NASCAR team owners have agreed to not use #3 again out of respect to "Big E", for "Little E" to use it would take him being able to convince the team owner, Richard Childress and NASCAR to allow him to run it.

Frankly, I hope he doesn't... he may be a great driver but there was only one Dale Earnhardt and the Number 3 should be laid to rest with him.

For one thing the #3 belongs to RCR. For the second, Jr has said on numerous occassions " the #3 is my daddy's number". Jr is Jr not his Dad and driving the #3 would be driving in his fathre's shadow. Besides since Teresa owns teh rights to Dale Earnhardt's name, likeness and logo it would be putting more money in her pocket, and I am sure by now anyone not living on Mars knows of the family fued

The number 3 is still on lease to RCR. Jr. says he does not want to race the 3. I respect the fact that RCR still pays the lease, to keep another driver from getting that number. I also respect that Jr. does not want the number. He can not fill the shoes left behind by his dad.

The #3 was Dale Sr's #, Dale Jr doesn't want to be compared to his daddy.. Also RCR owns the #3...At this stage in Jr's life he doesn't want the #3, he wants his own idenity.. I think the number 3 should be retired.. As much as I love Dale Jr...he is not the driver his dad was, and I can just hear the media ripping Jr if he drove the number 3 constantly comparing him.. it would be awful.. In time Jr with the 100% better team and equipment next yr we will see Jr improve, and get some championships, but never drive the 3....R.I.P the number 3 and Dale Sr.. You were one of a kind..

Go Dale Jr Go...

Are u on the same page as the rest of us???? I don't think so. Junior said he does not want to drive the 3 & it was in front of reporters. If u haven't read any articles about the 3, then u need to get out of the cave more often.

How about a quote:

He also seemed to squelch another persistent rumor — that he was headed to Richard Childress Racing to drive the #3 Chevrolet made famous by his late father. "'I'd like to do it for a year or two at the end of my career, when I'm 50 or 55," he said.(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(5-9-2007)

Dale would have to drive for the team that has Number 3....Hendrick's doesn't have it. He will probably end up in #5.

DEI owns the # 8 right now.Teresa pays a fee to nascar for the number each year. So far she is not selling the number to Hendrick.

Richard Childress owns the # 3, because he pays the fee to nascar for it. After he pays for the number it is up to him what he does with it.

He shouldn't because 1. he personally said he's not ready to do that. He wants to take on the 3 at the end of his career. Secondly, Jr. will probably be in the #38 next year. That is the newest rumor. Supposedly RYR has asked NASCAR to transfer the 38 to HMS for Jr. to use. The 3 is obviously in honor of his dad and the 8 in honor of his old number. Makes sense to me.
