With regard to an assignment, my lecturer instructed us to do research and 'integrate' different authors' views instead of summarising them...
What exactly does he want?

The instructor wants you to "paraphrase" using your words and their ideas. Be sure to give the original author the credit by adding a reference page. Otherwise, the plagairism could be held against you.

Compare and contrast the views. Come up with a position that uses the best arguments of each author.

Summarizing would simply be John Q says this. Jane P says this. and on and on. Integrating them would be John Q says this. Similarly, Jane P says this, but differs from John Q in that. . .

Integration involves comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences in the views.

My best guess is that your instructor wants you to bring their ideas/views together, rather than comprehensively review all of them.

My suggestion is that you ask for clarification from your teacher. He/she would be the best one to explain exactly what he/she is looking for.
