This woman my husband worked with drank alcohol almost every day or her pregnancy, smoked a pack of ciggarettes a day, and drank a few red bulls a day. she didnt care when every one told her how wrong it was. she said she didnt do anything with her son, and he came out with add...so she felt it was ok to do all these things her whole pregnancy. as a result, her daughter was born a dwarf( i know thats genetic), but also blind, deaf, retarded, and had under developed lungs and was in the hospital for about 3 months after her birth. shouldnt someone do something about these moms whose own actions affect their unborn childs life? especially now that her child is not going to really have a life like she should of had the chance to have? BTW she thinks that none of her actions have caused her child to be like that. And she says she in no way feels quilty about it.

Actually, no she wasnt on drugs. She's in the military! I think they shouldve stepped in a said hey you have to stop doing that or youll get in trouble...but like others have said...no one can make someone stop smoking and drinking and drinking energy drinks while pregnant... Also for those defending her...even if there was nothing wrong with her baby, she STILL took that chance by doing those things. Thats unacceptable. I dont see how anyone who has children could support that.

What a LOSER. Whats worse is that poor girl is stuck with her for a Mom forever. and I am betting we the people who pay taxes will have a role in that girls life as well in the form of special services and schools.
I think maybe a parenting class and then sign a waiver absolving financial support if your ****** while your pregnant.

ABSOLUTELY. I am 19 years old. I found out I was pregnant at 18, 3 days before High School Graduation. In no way did I want to become a mother but my child could not choose who she grows inside. I quit drinking smokin cigs and pot. A glass of wine every once and a while but my doctor said that was fine. For that woman to do what she did knowing the consquences should have law enforcement take over. And just knowing the life she took away from her child is so sad. And one more thing to corryglory..It does not matter how old you are when youhave a baby. If you step up to the plate and are a good mom, it doesnt matter if your 16 or 26 or 36. There are horrible mothers who are married and older and there are young unwed mothers who only do what is best for there child

Sounds like you're describing someone sociopathic. A natural assumption would be that she is using drugs. People who use drugs often do unconscienable things and lack empathy for others.
If her destructive behavior was more pronounced during her pregnancies, then I wonder if she has some dementia brought on by the pregnancy itself?
Some people like to flaunt their destructive behaviors to get a reaction. When you're observing them, they do it all the more. It's like they've got a little hostage. Hatred or self-loathing fits into this mix in some way.
I think you ought to consult with a social worker on the best course of action if she gets pregnant in the future.

I wish there was something. I think the father of the baby has the right to have the mom thrown in rehab or jail if she is a danger to the unborn child but I do not know if anyone else can press charges, which doesn't make sense to me. I wish the doctor flat out told her it was her fault. Maybe she would wake up.

Yes, they should have to face some consequence. Unfortunately, we live in a country where the life of an unborn child is valued little more than the life of a cockroach. If they were to do something about the woman you have described, then, they should punish all the women aborting/murdering their unborn children.

There are plenty of selfish women like this in this country im afraid. My friend and i were pregnant at the same time, she drank and got extremely drunk whilst pregnant and had a healthy baby boy. I on the other hand dont drink or smoke and went on to miscarry. It makes me really mad people like that, especially when there too thick to even relaise their actions that have caused the baby to be disabled. They should make it illegal to drink or smoke whilst pregnant!!

As much as I agree that pregnant women should be careful of what they do while pregnant, it cannot be definitively said that the woman in your question caused all of the things that happened to her daughter by what she did while pregnant. Many children are born with multiple handicaps to women who did nothing at all while pregnant. Many crack addicts have perfectly normal babies. Quit trying to guilt her out. If she is responsible, she will reap the consequences. Also, how can anyone determine the "quality of life" the child will have?

it's women like this that give us good women or mom's a bad name...
SHE HAS EVERYTHING FREAKING THING TO DO WITH THAT CHILD BEING THE WAY SHE IS NOW!!!!
THE CHILD COULD HAVE FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME
DRINKING OR SMOKING WHILE YOUR PREGNANT IS VERY BAD!!!!!
yes you should quit while your pregnant...the child didn't choose whether you smoke do drugs or drink while it's developing.it's sad what a world we live in today
people get pregnant and don't give a rat's a^^ about their babies.sad.they should be fixed with no chance at getting a reversal..along with the men that abuse women they should be fixed and put into rehab or something......sad world!!!!

Legally there is nothing that can be done, and no room to change the laws.
If we acknowledge that a woman has the ability to effect the life growing in her, we also have to accept the fact that abortion effects the life growing in her.
Short of the baby being born with alcohol or narcotics in its blood there is no room for legal ramifications. She has the right to destroy her childs life, either by substance abuse, or by killing it out right.
its sick, and its wrong, but its the world we live in. The unborn have no voice, except what those around them can give them.

I have seen some pretty awful things in my years of teaching and the only thing I can say is why is it you need a license to catch a fish but they will let anyone be a parent?
It's so very sad to hear stories like yours.
