Because of a lower back injury I'm not going to be able to workout for 2 weeks and actually be layed up in bed as much as possible.
So what can I do to:
A. Keep the fat off?
B. Keep from losing the muscle?

And as a side question, should I continue to take my whey protein shakes?

Some extra info: I've had a herniated disc for 3 months, went through the drug therapy and 3 weeks of physical therapy and a lot of the leg pain is gone but I still have considerable back pain. I worked out and kept active throughout the whole 3 months so now I've decided to try a rest approach to hopefully recover and heal fully.

It's only two weeks. You will not gain much fat, if any, unless you gorge yourself with fatty foods and/or more calories than you can burn off.

You will not lose muscle mass in two weeks either. Losing muscles mass requires a good length of time. Many people who have gained muscle mass throughout their workout routines can take a small leave of absence without losing the mass. You may feel less stamina and weaker when resuming your workouts, but the mass will be back very quick.

Stop worrying about it.

Not for nothing, but stay in bed for back pain? Are you post surgery? If not, get moving ASAP! I've "overcome" 4 bulging discs and a wide assortment of lumbo-pelvic-hip complex injuries and the last thing you want to do is be idle - your body will heal better if you are active and on your feet as much as possible: take walks, swim, train your core for function (e.g. abdominal brace), and be active! Take a look at our site for more info: www.balance2posture.com and specifically look at the core section of the corrective exercise program. Ignore the workout for now, but read the free information about back pain. Also, another great link is www.squidoo.com/low_back_pain

Hope you feel better!

Depending on the amount of pain you experience from your injury it's probably better that you don't do anything too strenuous. Walk if you can and drink lots of water. Since you won't be as active as normal I would lay off the protein shakes for now.
