if the bible is truly the "word of God", then why oh why is it filled with so many inconsistencies? i'm only paraphrasing here, but in genesis, the first few lines talk about how the earth is flat, the water is in the sky and the earth is covered by a dome. science has PROVEN these false. if the bible were truly the word of God, then He would have "written" it correctly. And don't say "he told" whomever to write it that why. Why on Earth would God want to spread false words to have people believe them to be true?

As laid out, the Bible cannot be true. There is no logical way that the stories in the Bible, the inconsistencies in scripture, and the self contradictory descriptions of their geocentrically created diety could exist as laid out within it. If God is judging us on our interpretation of the Bible, he is cruel and unfit for worship in the first place. Who would give beings comparable to less than microbial to an omniscient, omnipotent nothing but a book of metaphors and parables as the only method of avoiding an eternity of torment and punishment? Only a super ******.

Genesis 1: 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was[a] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
Please explain where you see in this passage that "the earth is flat, the water is in the sky and the earth is covered by a dome" -- because I don't see that at all.
In fact, the Prophet Isaiah wrote that the earth is round.

I don't know.Maybe they really did believe the earth was flat back then. But, there was allot of things omitted or lied about Mary Magdalene was not a slut--she was just accidently linked to Jezabell or the women in the next chapter. And, one of the disciples was a murder (not a homicidal maniac, I forget wich one it was).I think these were all just made up to show people that you can make mistakes and could be forgiven. You remember how God used to always be so angry in the old testament?I think Jesus believed in God and wanted to send out a better message of him.Jesus was a genuinly good person and he did exist.I think that it is also typical for them to make mistakes because thay were all written years apart.Like right now it seems that Jesus wasn't born in a stable with all the animals and his mother and father smiling down on him with all the wise men and the gifts.I think they just all written it the way they percieved it.But I know this, the bible was written to set out good morals.Otherwise they wouldn't have put so much time and care into it.

I have heard a lot about this but if you look in Isaiah 40:22, it says God sits above the circle of the earth which if you look directly above a sphere it looks like a circle. in Luke 17 34-36 it refers to Jesus returning while some people are sleeping and others are working which indicates the fact that the earth is thought to be like it is today where part of it is dark and the other is light.
I think this is a very good proof that the Bible is an astounding book given that it was claiming the Earth to be spherical in shape hundreds of years before science ever did.

How can the earth be flat and covered by a dome at the same time? Before the flood of Noah the earth was covered by a mist and a dome of water was in the heavens, but the flood brought this water down to help cover the entire earth.
Science doesn't know everything and Noah's Flood changed quite a bit of what we call earth.

Please state where the verses are you refer to? You mean where it says the earth was without form? and division of waters in verse 7? and where's the dome part? Are you reading a translation from King James version? Anything was possible before God created the earth as we know it. I just accept the fact that God created all as it is now. The important part to me is God's love and promises. I figure if I have questions for God, I will ask when I meet Him. I know it doesn't sound like sense to non-believers, but once you let God in your heart, the feeling is so overwhelming, you can do nothing else but believe. And to explain it to someone who has never felt it...I believe it falls on deaf ears. The heart has to be open to believe.

The Bible is historically, scientifically, and prophetically accurate. Read KJV, not other translations. reRead Genesis and ask the HOLY SPIRIT for the gift of discernment.
He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on *nothing. Praise GOD the creator of the heavens and the earth.
Shalom and Simcha

it doesn't call the earth flat, the bible says that God hanged the circle (sphere) of the earth on nothing. other religions say we're on the back of some lumbering animal or in a bowl floating in an ocean.
there is evidence that earth once had a dome of ice around it, which came down during the flood.
there are dinosaurs whose respiratory passages were too narrow to supply enough oxygen to the animal at current air density.the animal wouldn't even survive a day.a hyperbaric chamber would provide this.

The Bible never refers to the Earth as FLAT. It says the four corners of the earth wich is the cardinal directions. The Bible says in Isaiah God sits on the CIRCLE of the earth which means the earth is round. When you read the Bible you need to rightly divide the word of God as it says in 2 Tim. 2:15. If you don't rightly divide you can make the Bible say whatever YOU want it to say.

Ridiculous. The Bible isn't a science textbook, it's a book about man's relationship to God. I've read Genesis and I didn't see the part where it says the Earth is flat rather than spherical. I also didn't see the part about the dome covering the Earth. Could you please point out these "inconsistencies"?
