not all smokers will get cancer, however they greatly increase the risks by smoking

something I learned in genetics a while back

however, that being said, no smoking isnt woth the damage but you greatly underestimate the powerful addiction of nicotine and it's been said that it's as strong as being addicted to heroin

Most smokers I know would love to quit and have tried several times...it's easier for some than others to quit and often does take many attempts before they are successful in quitting

also, a point to note, an ex-smoker will always be a recovering smoker

If some of these answerers think it's that easy to quit, I'd love to know the magic solution

Judgemental people grate on me

No its not. I have quit twice and recently re-started. It is a severe addiction. Some Doctors claim it is as bad as heroin.Time itself will do plenty of damage to your body.

However, I have never known anyone that had always treated their body perfectly. I imagine it would be hard to find one person ( of legal age) that had never smoked, drank alcohol, used illicit drugs, had unprotected sex, had multiple partners, drove while under the influence of anything including prescriptions, always wore their seat belt, never sped, always used turn signs and followed all traffic laws, never eaten " bad food" high in fat, calories, sugars, caffeine.

In short, I would guess Ben Franklin had it pretty much right when he said that 9 out of ten men deaths is a slow suicide ( paraphrased). In his time it probably focused more on drink and possibly pipe smoking but you get the idea.

Nicotine is an addiction.

They've done studies where they addict rats to nicotine, and put them in a cage with two feeders. Depressing the pad on one feeder dispenses nicotine, depressing the pad on the other dispenses food.

The rats will starve to death. Every time.

Guess which animal on this planet we humans are most like.

It's only suicide if you have the intent to kill yourself. But no, it isn't worth the damage it does.

Just as long as you don't try to sue the tabacco company for getting you hooked on smoking, do whatever you want.

It does not matter if you smoke or not.
I read the other day that there is cancer causing
chemicals in carpets, pine furniture even in kitty litter.
So I don't think it matters.
Not to me anyway, not after reading that.
