Is it basically a guide to living? I was raised a catholic but it was forced down my throat so I rejected all notions of God, Jesus etc as soon as hit 18. But now that im a bit older I dont know what to believe. I tried to read the Bible before but it was written in this hard to read dialect which was well......hard to read. Is there a book that you can get which explains the Bible in a more easy to understand language, y'know like those notes you'd get in school to explain what the hell the great Gatsby was all about?

People say Bible is the word of God than why it should contain the errors and contradictions and on many places it goes against the modern science. A Book of God should not contain any scientific errors and unfullfilled prophecies. One unfulfilled prophecy is enough to prove the bible is not from God and there are severals...what you thing and why ?
If you read about The Quran, it has no errors and it goes with the modern science and the facts !!!
Bible is a collection of Books written by Humans !

The bible is not of human origin..It contains the words of God and directions for eternal life.
I'm sorry you had a bad start with the bible, but you can begin again with the understanding that God dearly loves you and desires a relationship with you.
Try a version of the Bible that you can easily understand.
Check out this site biblegateway.com..it has most of the versions available. I would recommend the Amplified Bible or the Message Bible for a start.
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with his presence and understanding....the Bible can only be truly understood through an impartation from the Spirit of God.

The Bible is a book about ancient times and with ancient places, with people from that time and far off places (for most of us) , which were written in ancient forms of foreign languages. OF course it takes time to understand! It wasn't originally written in English in modern times!

What I would recommend is that you listen to preachers and teachers that explain what it's talking about. Use more than one so that you can compare what they say and make up your own mind. Here's one I can give you :

Also commentaries will help you in your pursuit. There are study bibles that have commentary in them; here's one that is available at any Christian book store:

They guide you with learned commentary to greater understanding of those ancient times and ancient people.

It's just a book of fairy tales from too long ago for any reasonable person to worry about.
