Here's a map of the US by religious adherence (source).
At first glance, it seems that Oregon is the state with the highest percentage of its land mass with low religious adherence--almost all of it is in the lowest category, "under 35%."

Here is a map of how the US voted for president in 2004. Those less brainwashed by religion live in the dark blue areas. The areas in red are those that are most brainwashed by religion. The other areas have a more homogenous population.
From the looks of things, Rhode Island may be the bluest state.

The issue is this. The coastlines are the easiest places for immigrants to get to, so the cities on the coasts have more diversity. Therefore, no large voting bloc of a homogeneous community gets to decide things like putting intelligent design i the school system.
It's not about brainwashing, it is about respecting that everyone has the right to believe what they want. It is easier to do when you have many different kinds of people living in the same place.

The least brainwashed state is the state of sanity, which unfortunately not many people want to live in these days.

I think the first answer is right. The closer you get to the ocean, the less brainwashed they are. Not sure which state would be less brainwashed.

The Northeast and Northwest are the sanest, least brainwashed. The oceanic proximity rule is not always useful - i.e. Charleston S.C.

I made that up. I'm guessing it's Alaska.

Its not to brain washed where im at. Indiana.. I found anywhere in the south east to be bad.
