It depends on if they have been subjected to temperature changes, especially extreme ones. If so, then yes, toss them. If not, put them in the fridge in an air tight container and use at will.

I suggest you storing all your films in the fridge in an air tight container. This will maintain temps to keep the film stable longer.

For the most part, when a film is "just" out of date, it is still good if kept in ideal conditions. It is possible to have magenta shift though. This can be corrected with filters if hand printing or on Photoshop if digital printing.

If you value the subject matter in the photo's you take , don't take the chance on having bad film in your camera.
You could be missing a wonderful shot or a perfect memory or the last picture taken of someone -nah- I wouldn't chance using old film ! Toss it !

if you have some time and a Little money to invest try one of them, make some funny photos with your friends or pets and take them to proces at the lab and print them. Look what you get, sometimes you'll find interesting patterns or colors or even interesting pieces of art.

I just shot a roll of Velvia that was *four years* out of date and it turned out great.

Aside from the pink chipmunk.
