Is it better to just approach a woman and say hello? Ladies, have you heard any lines that you thought were witty or creative?

Hello is best, I agree. But, I do like lines where I know the guy actually thought it out a bit, not just one of the typical cheesiness and/or one that's just outright distasteful. I like a guy to show his creativity and originality--though I know it is a lot to look for in just a pick-up line--that can wait for further conversation. Play it safe--politeness should always work.

Okay, to add one that stays in my mind to this day: I was 18, had just started wearing contacts and was a cashier at a grocery store. One nice-looking guy comes through, looks up at me as I hand him his change, and he says, "You have beautiful eyes, you know that?" The way he said it, I knew he was sincere, and it was actually the first real compliment like that I remember receiving.

Yes, I still laugh when I remember the young chap who, standing in line next to me at the market, asked me: "Would you mind if I put this in your basket?"

While I was running accross the street one time, a man waiting for me in his car told me, "You can take your time. I don't mind looking at you." I melted. :-)
