It's my understanding that:

~ The new or waxing moon for - the beginnning of projects; indicates freshness, ascension, changes deeply ingrained stuff ; beauty, reconciliation and renewal.

~The full moon - same as above, but also inclusive of any magical act you wish to lend 'full steam' to.

~The darkening or waning moon - diminishing in nature ;for banishings, habits, situations or anything you wish to be rid of or say goodbye too. Also good for workings to uncover mysteries or ?'s/situattions who's solutions seem to evade you.

~There is also the 'gibbous moon' (a waxing moon, 3/4 to 'full') - and the 'black moon' (ie; - the moon has fully waned; you can't see it, even though it's 'there'.)

In the cycle from new (black) to wane (black) the keyword here is "momentum". A full moon-to-moon spell' might go like this:

~Night of the New Moon - Begin the spell and visualize your desired outcome.
~...of the waxing Gibbous Moon - repeat, and sustain your faith in the outcome.
~Full Moon - have a full-blown celebration/intense working pulling out all the stops - after breakfast, fast for the rest of the day, drink water, teas, & meditate alot, have a purifying bath w/ sea salt and hyssop, dress in something that inspires you - special incense - and, most importantly, a sincere attitude of gratitude, joy, and sacred humility.
~Waning Gibbous Moon - start banishing stuff you see as a hindrance to your desired outcome.
~Wane to black - ritual releasing influences you are conciously 'banishing'.

A much more specific forum than this generalized "Religion & Spirituality". This is more for sharing viewpoints than for actual 'specifics'. Try it, you'll like it! *Bless*SJ

Sweetie, you banish on a waning moon--when the moon gets smaller. During the waxing moon, the moon gets larger, so it's a time for increase. Which is an auspicious time for casting money, love, or wellness spells.

Casting during the waning moon will not necessarily reverse the effect, but any positive change will likely be small, delayed, or both.

Um, you banish at the WANING moon, as the moon gets smaller. You do spells for increase during the WAXING moon, as the moon gets bigger. (That's assuming that you want to take the moon phase into account and add that energy to your working; spells for any purpose can be done effectively at any time.)

Waxing moon- from new to Full
Waning moon- from full to new

Remember that detail, it took me a while to keep it straight too. Use the waxing for increasing, growing, accumulating power/energy; waning for decreasing, shrinking, expelling power/energy. You can do any sort of spell regardless of the moon's cycle, you're intent matters more than the cosmic energy. But if you use elemental energy for your work, use the solar cycle as a replacement, or other energy drawing systems (candles, herbs, stones, astrology, weather, etc) as tools to assist you.

Nope. Intent trumps all.

Timing isn't everything. I often don't even pay attention to the moon-phase of my spells. I do them when I need them.

Oh, absolutely, yep. Add the eye of bohemian frog and just a dash of cat whisker, then run around in a circle three times chanting "I am an idiot", "I am an idiot", "I am an idiot".

This will so totally work, oh yeah..
