How would one become a racer in GT racing? NASCAR has Remax and Bush to bring up thier drivers and Indy and F1 has their own, but what does GT have to being you up in the ranks in hopes to catch a ride running GT Cars?

It depends on time and money. Take Tom Milner for example who drives for Rahal-Letterman in the #18 Porsche. He started in karts, then in 2004 was in Formula BMW USA, then he did a few Grand-AM races in a GT car in 2004, and the full season in 2005; then for 2006 he raced for Panoz (Multimatic) in ALMS, and this year with RLR. Tom did have the benefit of starting out racing for his father's team in Grand-Am (PTG Racing).

Another route to go, if you have the money, is to work you way up the experience ladder with a school/series like the Skip Barber Racing Series. I have met some drivers who have done exactly that and now race in Grand-AM Rolex in GT cars.

Hope that helps.

ALMS GT Racing is just another class to compete in, it's not a beginner class. For example, you see people in that series like Jorg Bergmeister, who has won a DP title in the Rolex sports car series, So the GT classes are just another fun category of cars to race in (where you see some of the best racing).
