'Global warming' is mostly caused by the sun. Studies show an increase in solar irradiance that is very significant in terms of the recent warming of earth. A NASA study shows that since the late 70s when satellites have been measuring solar irradiance, the irradiance has been increasing on a trend that would been significant if it had continued over the last century.
Another study using data obtained from CaK spectroheliograms from 1915-1999 found that the increase in solar output accounts statistically for 80% of the warming over the last century.
You will notice that some global warming fanatics link to sites such as the stanford solar center to "prove" that the sun is not causing global warming. If you read that page, however, you will see that they compare the warming trend to the "number of sunspots." The number of sunspots is only one factor in the total irradiance of the sun. That page doesn't prove anything.

My first thought is that global warming is probably not the best term to use. I prefer Global Climate Change. And it is not something new to our planet.
Climate generally refers to the description of long term patterns of weather phenomena in relatively large areas of the Earth. There is ample evidence that over its history the Earth has experienced many dramatic changes in climate. These changes have varied from ice ages to desertification.
In the current lexicon Global Warming refers to the phenomenon of HUMAN INDUCED GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE. Climatologists, geophysicists meteorologists and the like all basically agree that the current climate changes being observed on the Earth have a substantial man-made component. Further, the scientific community has remarkable agreement that the relatively recent practice of injection of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere mostly from the burning of fossil fuels is the predominate cause. However other human activities such as deforestation and rapid urbanization also have contributed.
My second thought is that GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE will be the greatest challenge to mankind since civilization evolved. I fear we will see human conflict increase as the climate changes. It seems conflict always precedes cooperation and prospects for cooperation are quite low given the world's current socio-political condition.

Everybody have a different ideas but I think everything in the world have a special Balance. When you eat something more, your body balance will be change and you will get some problems, our earth is the same as our body. We have an ecology cycle that is stable all the time until you impose something to it more. Such as cutting the trees, destroy the forests, pollute the waters and air and..., we should accept that we change our world and now the earth is going to be warmer because we change its balance.
when the atmosphere temperature change to one degree more, the water vapor would be more than the normal range and this intensify the green house effect, so the temperature increase more and after some years we will have very strong storms and hurricanes and heavy raining in some areas and also very hot and dry weather in other areas.
You will ask "why it happens now?''
After the Second World War the population and industries grew very fast and this development needed more energy and to producing this energy they need to use more fuel.
in the recent decade the growth of industries was very fast such as the Chinese industry and now the India started. This matter happens in all of countries and now we are going to get the problem.
for an example, if you think how many mobile phones and computers is working around the world, you can know how much more energy we need to use them everyday and also other devices that we use in our life such as cars TVs and others. The population increase and the cities develop very fast. More and More
This happens by business and industries fast growth.
So we need the clean energy sources to produce the electrical power to keep the earth clean. This is the complex problem.
If it will be late, we gradually will destroy the nature and our life.

The only problem i see with global warming is how will we stop the influx of immigrants from ASIA and Africa and Southern Europe ( e.g Spain) from coming to the UK..in 30 years time ( because we will still have water resources etc,)
whilst in the further flung places, ( that i frankly dont care about!!) they will have lack of water and permanent droughts or sea levels will rise to engulf their land.... e.g. Hollland

The evidence is clear. Climate change has been going on for millions of years and requires no human input to take place. We didn't cause it.. we can't stop it.
Somebody mentioned the industrial boom following WW2 and its impact.. however, something they forgot to mention was that during that period.. the planet went into a mini cooling cycle for 30 years. Yes, that's right.. during the heaviest period of industrial growth the planet has ever seen.. it got colder. And amusingly, the same people who are running around now screaming "the sky is falling" were doing the same thing then, except they were saying we were all going to freeze to death.
It's all hype, using horrible "scientific" processes which cherry pick data to fit pre-determined conclusions.

I think global warming is the most serious threat to human existence on this planet, and we have no one else to blame but ourselves.
Yes, global warming is a cyclical event that is ongoing and has been ongoing since this planet has been part of this universe.
But man's industrial revolution has interfered with the natural course of events, sped up the process, not giving humans, plants or animals time to adapt to changes in the Earth's atmosphere and planetary conditions.
Our smoke-belching factories and vehicle emissions alone dump billions of tons of pollution into our atmosphere each day.
For those doubting Thomases who prefer to live for today, stick their head in the sand, and say, 'Global warming is a hoax', I can only reply: "How will you face your children, grand-children or great-grand-children when they ask you why you failed to do something to harness the effects of global warming that has now ruined their world?"
Even if global warming isn't such a serious threat, WHY is it not logical to do everything we can to protect and preserve the delicate ecological balance between all men, plants and animals? We are all here on this Earth for a purpose; man has no right o destroy all other living things just because of his own hubris, arrogance and self-imposed superiority.
Global warming will, indeed, destroy this planet as we know it unless we take action NOW. Fifty years from now it will be too late. We will all be doomed. -RKO- 08/27/07

I know it's real and mostly caused by us.
This is science and what counts is the data.
"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”
Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)
Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command
Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the vast majority of the scientific community, short and long.

http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf
It's (mostly) not the sun:
http://solar-center.stanford.edu/sun-on-earth/FAQ2.html
And the first graph aboves shows that the sun is responsible for about 10% of it. When someone says it's the sun they're saying that thousands of climatologists are stupid and don't look at the solar data. That's ridiculous.
Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/ATG/polywater.html
There's a large number of people who agree that it is real and mostly caused by us, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a "conspiracy". Just three examples of many:
"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."
Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart
"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."
Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona
“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."
Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont
There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:
http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/329.php?nid=&id=&pnt=329&lb=hmpg1
And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686 and:
"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."
Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

It really depresses me! I think about it all the time and how can I not when every event of the day is usually brought about by global warming, the news from around the world and the local news and more importantly our weather here in Australia, we are suppose to be having winter and today was the hottest day for winter in over 12 years!!!!!!! no wonder Owen tried to take his own life!!! I feel like doing the same!Who wants to live in a miserable world like ours lately anyway?!!

It's a serious problem that a lot of ppl are foolishly ignoring and are in total denial of the facts put forth.
Global Warming is real and by time the naysayers realize it, it'll be too late to reverse the damage.

I don't think about it at all; since it does NOT exist. The whole concept was thought up and created by Al Gore so that he could keep his name in the news; which is pretty pathetic. If you've noticed, he refuses to debate any climatology experts (he actually realizes that he's full of it). In a few to several years, we will begin a different climate cycle and all the goofy, left-wing libs will have to dance a different dance and act like this never happened!
