That's not exactly right. The earth won't move closer to the sun in 5 billion years, the sun will expand as it becomes a red giant when helium conversion reaction starts. The earth won't tumble either.
All ancient religions have a story about the end of time. Most of them are directly or indirectly from the early Egyptian or Sumerian religions. At the time, earthquakes were the main cause of destruction on a massive scale for the area so almost all end of the universe stories include earthquakes.
If you realize that we are on a rather small planet traveling around a fairly average star that is one of a billion stars near the edge if an ordinary galaxy that is one of at least a hundred billion galaxies in a universe that is 14 billion years old, then earth's comings and goings and deities makes virtually no difference to the cosmos.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Besides, how can the Qur'an say anything about the creation or destruction of the earth when it says the earth is flat?
Q. 88:20; Q. 71:19; Q. 13:3; Q. 43:10; Q. 15:19

And what is the point of the ""question". The science of the Arabian world was far ahead of European science 500 years ago. If you are trying to express superiority of a religon...what happened in the last 500 years???? Plus when the Sun expands, it is highly doubtful humans will be around in a few billion years or so. nd it isnt just earthquakes that will occur. The planet gets all vaporized.

Who gives a rats @ss,because my Islamic friend, life as we know it will most likely be diminished long before that,as all
Countries around the world will be Nuclear, and if that happens how many thousands of nuclear weapons will there
be on the planet earth.but that won't worry this little black duck as i will have died long before any of this becomes fact.So you see those who believe in the Tooth Fairy will
more than likely have gone to meet the worms and maggots
long before the Sun melts them to dust .blessed be the
Anti-Christ and that goes for the follower's of the same.

It was predicted in the bible - earthquakes - sun scorching the earth - global famine. The moon moves farther away from earth every year, about 1/2 inch, it will eventually float away. Lots of idea's came be taken from the bible, remixed and told another way. Big Deal.

The universe, its creation, it's existence and it's eventual destruction is described in great detail in the Qur'an. I'm sure you'll just love this article on "Islam on the Universe and the Physics of the Day of Judgement".
I will paste in a few excepts, but to read the complete article, click on the following link insha'Allah:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WELCOME-2-ISLAM/message/628
Excerpts:
This Article is based on the concept that the expansion of the universe (space) is the cause of the "phenomenon of time." If this is true then the universe will "appear" to be paradoxically expanding faster as we try to measure the distant expansion of the past with our slowing time. This anomaly was independently discovered by two groups of astronomers in 1998. Unaware that our time could be slowing, the physicists are now trying to explain this surprising finding by some undiscovered property of space or repulsive force that may make the universe expand faster.
Qur'an Chapter: 50, Verse: 3
"When we are dead and have become dust
(shall we be resurrected?)
Qur'an Chapter: 75, Verses: 3 & 4
Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones
Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers
Qur'an Chapter: 22, Verse: 7
And surely, the Hour is coming, there is no doubt about it; and certainly Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves
THE AFTERLIFE
The belief in life after death is universal; it is reflected in the teachings of all the major religions of the world, permeating culture and time. Despite tremendous scientific and technological advancement of the twentieth and twenty first centuries, we have no answers to many questions that have plagued the minds of people from time immemorial. What happens to us on dying? What is soul? Does it leave the body to enter the spiritual world, which is beyond human perception in some other dimension? Are the souls reincarnated entering some other body to be recycled again as in the beliefs of some eastern religions? Is the soul captured and kept somewhere until the Day of Judgement to be reunited with the body that rises from the grave? How can a body that had decayed and disappeared into dust, regain its original shape and form? We can believe what we wish; however the modern world is based on truthful pursuit of science and technology. Truth cannot be decided on wishful thinking or majority vote, if that was the case then Columbus would have surely fallen of the earth in 1492...."
"...IS RESURRECTION A PHYSICAL PROCESS?
Qur'an Chapter: 35, Verse: 9
And it is Allah Who sends the winds, so that they raise up the clouds, and We drive them to a dead land, and revive therewith the earth after its death. As such (will be) the Resurrection!
The raising of clouds and the growth of plants following rain had appeared miraculous in the past. Now we understand these as due to various natural laws. In the Quran the resurrection is compared to the physical processes such as the growth of plants after rain; this suggest that revival after death is also based on some physical laws created by Allah.
Following are the main themes of the Day of Judgment described in the Quran:
(1) The final earthquake and the transformation of the earth into a hollow sphere.
(2) Rising from the grave.
(3) A time when our hands feet and tongue will become witnesses against us.
(4) Opening of gates in the sky.
(5) Through which every one will be removed to some other higher dimensions beyond the dying universe.
All of the above events can be explained on the basis of reversal of time and the accompanying reversal of gravity which the physicists believe, has to happen if the time is going to reverse. Sometimes in the future the knowledge of the Day of Judgment that is given in the Quran might become widely known and accepted as the truth.
Qur'an Chapter 41: verse 53
We will show them our signs in the universe, and in there own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur'an) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things?
AN INTRODUCTION TO COSMOLOGY
To understand how the future of the universe is linked to the Day of Judgment, some knowledge of cosmology is essential. In the next few pages we will learn, how the universe began, what it is like now and what are the possibilities in the future.
Our solar system consists of earth and eight other planets that are orbiting around a star that we call the sun. The sun, along with two hundred billion other stars, comprises our galaxy "The Milky Way." The galaxies are shaped roughly like a disc, with the stars orbiting at various distances around a large central mass......"

please...thats rather late in the anals of apocolyptic tales....ancients in the stone age told of such....check pre-historic apocolyptic tales...mohammed copied texts from earlier works drawn from the jewish bible and talm,ud plus other myths, over 27 years...any novelist can do that...most biblical works are fiction based on oral traditions....I can write a bible too if I took that long to do it...many psychos do also, check an asylum where there are religious delusions....get educated about history and dont be so arrogant thinking that prophet is any better than all the other nuts who claimed they knew god. the earth has cataclysms and we will be victim at some point too...fact!
egmuslim...the book of Job has all those details circa
500 bc...mahamed is 1000 years past that fact

No, I didn't know that but I did know what the Holy Spirit revealed to Peter in the 1st Century AD.
2 Peter 3:8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. 11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
Before that in his letter the Holy Spirit also gave Peter this warning to pass along to true believers.
2 Peter 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
People who think that they honor the Lord Jesus by giving Him the title of "prophet" but who deny that He is the eternal and only Son of God through whom alone is salvation available are promoting destructive heresies and denying the Master who bought them with His blood on the cross.
Notice that it says they will "secretly" bring in these false teachings. How is that done? They mix a lot of God's truth from the Bible with a few deceptions provided by Satan masquerading as an elect angel of God and deceiving someone into believing that God Himself has spoken to them.
2 Corinthians 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
