I'm not going to get into a pissing match as to why I have an uncharacterized discharge, but I do from 1998. I emailed the recruiter off their website and got my response and he didn't bring it up as an issue. I want to know if anyone has any other information on the subject.

I know some people who joined the Legion. They don't care what you have done in the past. They will run a quick criminal background check, and as long as you aren't wanted on some serious active felony charges, they will let you in.

The French will check you out, since a pussy yank deserted the Legion a couple of years ago before he finished his basic training, then wrote a book on his fantasy experience in the Legion, they keep a close eye on all Americans who join, and I mean a very close eye.

From what i have always understood and from the few people I have talked to. The Legion does not care a tiny little bit what you did. They just want to see what you are and if you can be useful.

Times have changed, they now DO care about what you've done. You still might be able to join. You'll have to go for your interview first to find out.
