This is part of my French homework and one of the few sentences that has stumped me. I believe "His sons" translates to "Ses fils" and upstairs is "en haut", but I can't figure out the middle.

1) Ses fils jouent aux cartes en haut.
2) Ses fils jouent aux cartes à l'étage.
They both mean the same, but 2) is more used in European French.

Ses fils = His sons
jouent aux cartes = play cards
en haut= upstairs
Putting it all together,
Ses fils jouent aux cartes en haut.
