Being summoned is not a guarantee that you will end up sitting on a jury, but there are only a few circumstances under which you can be excused. You must have a strong reason, such as academic exams or a pre-booked holiday. However, most excuses will probably only lead to your jury service being deferred.

Honestly, one should get a proper doctor's statement. Then send the statement into the government office that is over the jury duty situation. Keep several copies of this doctor's statement for yourself. Then you are on the up and up. This is a worthwhile thing to do and it is truth. Otherwise, there are other things to present as a need to care for an elderly person or relative might be. Remember this, What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Peace and God Bless.

While on jury duty, I heard a gentleman state the same thing that Chigga said. He said look at the ethnicity of the defendant and when called for questions tell them 'all xyz's are guilty of something'.....he said it worked for him in the past even if he were the same ethnicity as the defendant and sure enough, he was let go at the end of the day with no jury seating him.

In Los Angeles, and Inglewood, there is a dress code. Business Casual. Things like t-shirts especially with slogans written on them, shorts, flip-flops, and extreme hairstyles/hair colors, are all frowned upon in the jury system.
Actually jury duty can be interesting; you learn how the process works. At the very least, you will have material for conversation among your friends/peers and who knows, you might even decide to write about your experience.
Try to focus on the positive, you might just enjoy yourself.

Financial reasons. I work as a consultant so if I'm not working I'm not getting paid. Thus far, I've been able to not serve for several years.
However, when I worked for "the man" I did take every opportunity to serve and really enjoyed it. It's kind of cool seeing how the process works.

Serve, damnit! It's the least you can do for your country. People who try to get out of jury duty should be fined $10,000, BY A JUDGE, without A jury to hear the case!
