It's a surprise to a lot of people that white wine should not be drunk at refrigerator temperature, but should be brought up to a temperature of about 15 deg C. At 5 degrees ('fridge temp), a lot of the more subtle flavours are not tasted. This is especiually the case with chardonnay.
Of course, if the room temperature is over, say 20 degrees, that will be far too warm for white wine.

Incidentally, the best temperature for drinking red wine is also about 15 degrees. This is equivalent to cellar temperature in Europe, at which both red and white wine can be drunk.

White wine should not be served a room temperature. Chill and remove from the fridge and allow to sit for 10 minutes before serving then place in an ice bucket rather than back in fridge.
