Its not about leaving a legacy. Its about living in the moment.
Thats been my personal philosophy for a good four years now.
You make what you want out of life. You see the meaning in where you place the meaning.
Cheers!

The point is about finding "the Truth". If you don't want to find the Truth, then you can live the way that you think is good for you. But still you need to respect and not violate the law of the country you live in.
But if you want to know "the Truth" or the "Reality of Life and Death", then you need to study science and religion.
Analogy:
A good citizen want to abide the law and don't want to go to jail. The citizen will try to avoid doing things that would result in he/she going to jail.
What if the Reality is that there is Heaven and Hell. After we died, there is another life. But we either go to Heaven or go to Hell. There is no third option. Going to Hell is worst than going to jail. If there is actually Hell, don't we want to learn about this,so that we can avoid going to Hell.

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

You think it's easy to be happy? Happiness is allusive if you seek it. You'll find it when you least expect it.
Life is not entirely pointless. It is what you make of it. I think people get to the "meaningless" point when they focus on finding that happiness or love, and when they do, it doesn't meet their expectations. Live without expectations, and you won't be disappointed.
Peace.

Religion doesn't make sense in heaven. It makes sense in hell. For those who suffered or lost a loved one, religion is a great help. If God did not reach out, we would not have known how wonderful life was. Religion is for the old who are looking at death not for the young who are trying to figure out life.

Your problem is one of perspective. When you chose to become human you gave up a part of yourself. In order to be reunited with this other part and become whole again requires you listen to and believe The Spirit of truth within you. Of course the unholy spirit will throw all kinds of things in your mind to keep you from uncovering the truth in hopes that you will give up and settle for less than your birthright. Are you a quitter? Do you want to settle for a meaningless existence? Then just keep doing what you are doing.

Christianity is about an eternal supernatural relationship (or fellowship or communion) with our Creator. It is not about having a goal of being a good person nor is it about getting to heaven for heaven is just a place for us to be with God.
Nor can you decide to believe or not. If you have hope of being united with your Creator, you will believe for "to believe" simply means "to hold as true" and if you seek something, you have to first hold as true that it exists.
God created us to be His sons and daughters. I reason that if He created me, then He knows me better than I know myself and with that, He can make sure that I won't ever be bored with Him. In God's family, I am but a child and there are things I do not yet understand but if I am sure that God loves me, then I can trust Him not ever to be bored with Him.

Messengers From Among You
[7:35] O children of Adam, when messengers come to you from among you, and recite My revelations to you, those who take heed and lead a righteous life, will have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.
[*7:46-49 Initially, there will be 4 places: (1) the High Heaven, (2) the Lower Heaven, (3) the Purgatory, and (4) Hell. The Purgatory will be annexed into the Lower Heaven.
Quran: Fully Detailed
[7:52] We have given them a scripture that is fully detailed, with knowledge, guidance, and mercy for the people who believe.
[7:53] Are they waiting until all (prophecies) are fulfilled? The day such fulfillment comes to pass, those who disregarded it in the past will say, "The messengers of our Lord have brought the truth. Are there any intercessors to intercede on our behalf? Would you send us back, so that we change our behavior, and do better works than what we did?" They have lost their souls, and their own innovations have caused their doom.
[7:54] Your Lord is the one GOD, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then assumed all authority. The night overtakes the day, as it pursues it persistently, and the sun, the moon, and the stars are committed to serve by His command. Absolutely, He controls all creation and all commands. Most Exalted is GOD, Lord of the universe.
[7:55] You shall worship your Lord publicly and privately; He does not love the transgressors.
[7:56] Do not corrupt the earth after it has been set straight, and worship Him out of reverence, and out of hope. Surely, GOD's mercy is attainable by the righteous.
[7:57] He is the One who sends the wind with good omen, as a mercy from His hands. Once they gather heavy clouds, we drive them to dead lands, and send down water therefrom, to produce with it all kinds of fruits. We thus resurrect the dead, that you may take heed.
