or a laptop, or a vehicle, who comes up with the names? Or are there some industry standard how to name products?

First, there is no industry standard. Each company has its own naming conventions.

Building a brand name is very important, so companies try to keep some sort of continuity from year to year.
(Example: Xbox 300, Xbox360, etc.; PS1, PS2, Ps3)
Traditionally, bigger numbers, denote newer models. For example a TX-1200 should be newer than a TX-1200.

Finally, it is Marketing that comes up with the names and product numbers.
