The poor things never have a chance when surrounded by 2 giant bug-eaters. (The other 3 cats aren't so interested.)

I feel almost sorry for the tiny little insects. They're cheating the spider population out of a well-deserved meal! (lol)

Mine eat them bc they move. They will kill and eat anything that moves....moles, mice, lizards, and snakes as well!! I about had a FIT when I walked out of the house and saw the cat on the front step slinging a snake around!!! The reason I say anything that moves is also bc my 7 year old son was outside after getting a new fishing pole and was casting it out and reeling it in before getting ready to go fishing, and the cats were chasing it as well. It took about 20 minutes before one finaly caught it....thank goodness he stopped reeling it in and it only barely snagged the cat. The odd thing is, they did not learn, and they still do it. hehe

My Cat Eats Bugs

Cat's attack anything that moves (like toes), and will put anything in their mouths, often without stopping to sniff it out (like toes). Bugs are generally high in protein, and cats find them tasty, or at least satisfying if they struggle (like toes).

I don't like my cats to attack bugs. Mostly because cats, when very playful, won't know or care if the bug they are planning to munch on is poisonous. It is also because I find it unecessary for them to be eating out of boredom. Cats are not natural, wild animals, not anymore, and if they're owned, have all the food they need in a bag. There are animals struggling for survival; maybe I just find it all in bad taste(unless the cat is needed for a rodent or pest problem. A much better answer than pesticides or poison). I'll rescue a mouse or bird if my cats attacks it. My cats obviously don't need the nutrition, and they can enjoy playing with the toys I buy for them. It's a pity that they can't be wild, free animals, but it's a human responsibilty to make the best of it. I don't care for the idea of pets or breeding and froo-frooing up a beautiful wild animal to look pretty and matching with our purses and hats to begin with, but unfortunately there are domesticated animals in need of rescue and care, and the companionship is always great.

Cats still have the wild animal instinct to catch and eat things. While gross to us, it is a good time and as Hank the Cow Dog says, " Eating bugs is lots of fun. It doesn't require a hot dog bun." Mine do it every chance they get and even try to sneak them into the house, I guess for a little midnight snack.

I noticed my cat eats bugs too! Recently, I heard him clawing under the bed(which scared the bajeezus out of me) and i went to see what he was doing and he was playing with a spider who was sooo scared lol. I yelled "Rudy no. You better nottt. Dont do that. DONT EAT THE SPIDER. RUDY!" Since i couldnt reach him! And he ate it up :( Then last night, my boyfriend saw out of the corner of his eye Rudy playing with something that wasnt a toy, and was like rudyyyyyyy, and rudy huried and gobbled it up. We think he eats them faster now right after we yell at him so we dont stop him. Im sad cause I wont kiss him smoochies on his lips anymore.
Momma(me) doesnt even kill bugs! I capture them and let them go outside!

C'mon the cats don't even realize those are living creatures. Cats by nature are hunters, in order to survive, hence it is instinctive to chase and capture prey. In this case, since they have been fed, they probably see the bugs as toys, just like they would see the toy mouse you gave them when they were kittens. How many bugs have you killed with your speeding car's windshield? How many bugs have you killed by crushing with your shoe when walking? Who's the guilty one here :) ?

My cat goes after butterflies. It really makes me mad and I usually try to divert her attention so the poor butterfly has a chance. I don't know why cats eat these things.

I think it's more the "thrill of the chase". I have two cats, and they both love to hunt bugs down, but only one of them actually eats the bug he catches. So I think it's more of the fun of hunting them down.
