This question was meant to reflect the actions of the police as an organization rather than individuals. As far as 1968, I know, I was there..
Personally I believe the salaries should be increased for their difficult services.

I refer to "pig" as the police force that has changed from officers helping people to a military gustopo assault force, that pushes the 4th amendment beyond its limits. Like...

1. Setting up roadblocks, add a few palm trees and you have Nicarauga.
2. Intimidating ignorant people to give up their right to refuse a search.
3. Entrapment operations where police sell drugs or act like prostitutes. Don't you have anything better to do?
4. Opposing Citizen Review Committess.
5. Busting people and keeping their marijuana and cash for personal use.
6. Racial profiling. In Orange Beach, AL I never have seen a black person travel thru without being stopped.
7. Busting down doors with battering rams and scaring children to death.....

8. Randomly searching a crowd or bar wit police dogs without a warrant.
9. Random shakedown and search of people on the street without probable cause.
10. High speed chases, of minor infractions, endangering the life of everyone on the street.
11. Telling lies in court to support the prosecution's case. It happens all the time. Ask any attorney.
12. Taking sums of cash money from individuals with no proof of any wrong doing.

i can understand this observation. It seems that being a police officer does require cooperation from the public, but it also seems that police officers for the most part do nothing to maintain a healthy relationship with the public to help them do their job. Too many times I have bared witness to officers being rude to people and taking the easy approach to situations while ignoring the actual cause of it. I see them get short with potential witnesses simply because they don't want to be there or don't like something about the person. Then when they show up to a scene, they get mad and frustrated because no one wants to help them with their case. Public relations is a big part of law enforcement and each officer, no matter what rank, should be trained and expected to maintain good relations with the public.

I know right. My friends skate and they get so mad, once in a while you'll find some cool cops but most of the time their just real angry people. RENT A COPS take their job way too seriously.. they definitely need help in the head. I confronted a cop and asked him what he does for a living and he was like I put people in jail and I started laughing and I was like yeah sure you do. It was the cop at my school.. he tried giving me a referral for stating my opinion. all I can do is give cops like that the finger whenever I see them. To answer your question : they all called pigs because pigs are discusting animals and thats what people refer cops to

Starting in August 1968 and for a number of years afterwards, police officers were called pigs by young people, the disenchanted and even the media. This came about when a group who called themselves the Yippies, protested the Vietnam War near the 1968 National Democratic Convention in Chicago. They had a small pig as their presidential candidate, and when police disrupted their demonstration, they started to call the police pigs. The expression caught on. Years later, the radical leaders of the Yippies became mainstream and calling police "pigs" drifted into the past.

If you were walking down the street and attacked, beaten and robbed, who would you call to help you? Probably some beat cop would come to your aid and help you no matter what, he would ask if you were OK and if you needed medical attention. He would then venture out into the darkness to find the person that just assaulted you. He would do this because he is there to help and protect all in need. And in the end you would be glad to see that " Pig" the next time you are in trouble, because no body else would give a da** about you but them. Remember that the next itme you are in trouble!

If you mean eating, mating, and sleeping then I guess I can call you a pig also.

The grammar in this question is flawed, as is the logic in it... You don't like cops, we get the point...
