I do not recommend medication because it will not solve your problem, only suppress it so it can pop out in another form, perhaps in a process happening within your body that you will not notice until it is too late. As for anxiety attacks, I had an acquaintance who was in the same situation. I did not help her because she refused help, but I have some strange methods to deal with this. It sounds as if there are no tremendous problems in your life, but I'm only assuming from the "suffer from attacks of anxiety for no apparent reason" quote. It would be helpful for you to seek an opportunity where you can focus on other people in third world countries, perhaps volunteering to distribute malaria relief or food, even. When you're dealing with a real crisis, sometimes these things take the backdrop and leave you alone. On the other hand, pressure can mount higher and you'll find yourself worse off, but I doubt this.

I am single mum. I have been suffering for panic attacks for some 15 years now, though it was not until recently I understood what they were. They were progressively getting stronger and more frequent, stopping me from some days even leaving my house. I read this book and it all made perfect sense.
I am not saying I was not terrified of putting theory to action, I was more scared of that than the next attack! But I decided to view it as a game, one I had control of and could therefore not lose!

Rose, you'll be ok. It will get better. I suffered with horrible anxiety/depression/panic for years and I was on medication for it. The medication helped but it didn't make the anxiety go away. When I first went on meds I expected them to "cure" me but that's not how it works. Look into www.stresscenter.com I got this program one morning at 3 am while I was in the middle of a panic attack and immediately regretted buying it because I felt like I "fell" for something. The program came about a week after I ordered it and they have it set up so you go through it in a certain order but there were things that were covered in the program that I wanted to know about right away so I skipped around a little. Literally within a week I was a new person or more like my old self. You learn how to control the panic so it doesn't eat you alive like mine did. PLEASE look into it at least the site because I really believe it can help you too.

i used to be a mental health worker and have seen a lot of people recover from this illness. it is one of the illnesses that a person can sometimes completely recover from. stay on your medications for now, and i suggest you also seek counsel ling to help you with this problem. anxiety usually is caused by stresses that you may or may not be able to tell were it comes from.. therapy will be able to identify your stress, and give you coping skills to con troll your anxiety attacks. it can take a while , but i have seen many people weaned off their medications, when the therapy gives you insight and knowledge . you will get better as time goes on. good luck to you

I just heard a lady who cooks on the Food Network telling about this....she got it after she had a divorce...all of a sudden was frightened to go out in public, etc....her name is Paula....and if you look her up, she would probably talk to you...she is a very friendly person. She said she would be hiding in a corner of a store and breathing deep breaths into a paper bag, trying to get control of herself. She said usually you have to go get help for it....but she managed to overcome it herself...one step at a time.
Go to a professional counselor...they can help you get over this. But I saw her discussing it on the Larry King show...and if you contact her, she would probably reply....look for Paula on the food network...the southern cook!
