What does it mean and do you agree or disagree?

Thank you!

It sounds like when someone fights for others not themselves, its unselfish, and not gaining anything for themselves, they aren't doing wrong?

I guess I agree if they keep doing so...

This quote speaks to the nobility of fighting for a just cause - the liberation of an oppressed and helpless people being among the most righteous reasons to go to war. In theory, I certainly agree with that sentiment; even the smallest child can be made to understand that the strong must *defend* the weak, not abuse or dominate them. Our country's very existence was based on the notion that freedom from tyranny was worth taking up arms to defend.

With this quote, Wilson meant to say that when men fight to defend not only their own freedoms, but those of a victimized people also, the horror of war and the sacrifice of those who fight it is tempered and purified into something meaningful and noble. Freedom isn't free; it IS one of the few things truly worth fighting for.

jennifer..this is all so subjective..this is the other side of the coin...say terrorism to some is freedom fighters to another..if you ask me...WAR is never a solution..WAR is never sacred..WAR brings destruction, sadness and above all eliminates the most important value of all, LOVE..

Basically what he is saying is that when people fight for those that cannot, it is a noble thing to do..

This is a good thing, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
