Is split option available for Infantrymen in the US Army (National Guard)? I'm sure there is but figured I'd ask. Or is the only option OSUT? Thanks.

Haha, yeah I know. I would go active but I'm going to a state college. Besides, I respect what you guys do in going active; I wouldn't handle it. I'd be lonely like heck. My friend's in the Guard and I was thinking of hooking up with his unit. Actually, another one of my friend from work is in the Army Reserve. So, I figured just stay home.

Oh yeah, the reason why I asked for split option for Infantry was that since I'm going full time at college, I wouldn't make it back in time for the next semester. Honestly, I can't miss another semester; I'm already a semester behind.

I know I shouldn't do split option. It'll just be a waste of time to wait but I won't make it back in time for the next semester and like I said, I really can't miss another one and I know there's no guarantee that I'll be back for school while away.

A_Wood80..You dont know what your talking about. Alot of Natinal Guard is combat arms and alot of Reserves is combat support. Yes you can do the split option thing. I would advise against it but you can.

Sure is, just got back from Benning and there were a bunch of split ops doing that. However, all of the split ops 11B would have done the OSUT if they had the chance to do it again.

Split option? I don't recon. My best advise is go Army. Active that is. I went from Army to Guard, and went back to the active duty side of things. Lost a stripe and had to earn it back. If you get called up, it is like going back to Boot Camp, if you are Guard.

Its only OSUT now. Unless you are a reclass form another MOS who has already completed 9 weeks of BCT. Why go national guard though? Active Duty is the way to go I am telling you! You wont regret it!

My brother is currently at Benning finishing his split op for the Guard (11b), Before he left he said he really wished he had done it all together at one time instead of split. It just makes it that much harder.

Unless you're a reclass, you have to go through the ITB, which is OSUT. As far as I know, you can't be combat arms in the reserve or national guard.

Well, I dont know if I understand the question.

But if you are chosen to be 11b, you can either be light or heavy.

Light= air assault
heavy=mech

you might even be chosen to be 11c which is artiliary basically.

dont want to type a huge paragraph detailing, so i just made it basic

You want to hook up with his unit! Why would the US Army want anything to do with a gay person like yourself? I can just imagine all that HIV/AIDS blood of yours spraying all over the other straight guys when that bomb goes off next to you! He probably thinks 11B means bisexual! Do yourself and every one else a big favor and stay the hell away!
