I Share my dog with my friend. My friend brought her, and I look after her when my friend is at work.

The trouble is, we both live at different houses, and my dog lives at my friends house all the time (because my friend did pay for her) and My friend wont let the puppy sleep on a bed because she says there is no need. So my dog has to sleep on the cold, hard concrete, and when it rains she sniffles and cries.

My friend is very kind, but just dose not see how cruel it is. How do I tell her that it is cruel without her banning me from seeing the puppy?

Dogs are not wild animals. they need shelter. Get a bed for the dog, or at the very least, a cheap old blanket from home or a thrift store.

Then do some research and show your friend the reasons why this is uncomfortable and unhealthy for the dog physically and mentally. That way you are not critisizing her.. the info comes from the humane society or something.

Is she outside on the concrete, getting wet in the rain? If she is,this is called animal cruelty. If she's outside, she needs a doghouse. If she's sleeping indoors on concrete, she should have a raised bed, like a Kuranda, or at least a rubber stall mat ( you can buy these at farm stores;they are for horses) so that she won't get pressure sores. It can also aggravate arthritis and can actually cause joint disorders.Just let your friend read all of our answers! And if you share the puppy, then you should have a say in defense of her well -being. Oh,and my friend let her golden retriever sleep on concrete all her life, and even though it was indoors in a heated kennel, the dog got arthritis so bad that she had to be put to sleep, and she was only 11,with nothing else wrong with her.

That's too bad. If I were you, I'd find a better class of friends...this one sounds like a real heartless B*tch. Is this poor puppy outdoors (I hope not!). A puppy is too young to be kept outdoors, and your friend does not sound smart enough to own a dog. If the dog is outdoors, the laws in most communities require adequate shelter (a place away from wind, rain, snow, wind...a place dry and warm), bedding, food and water, and a clean environment. If she is not providing these things for the dog, I wouldn't hesitate to report her to authorities. A traditional dog bed is not appropriate for an outdoor dog ...they need something that will repel moisture and resist molding, etc. The ASPCA website has some good information on taking care of outside dogs (and even BETTER information on why dogs should NOT be living outside). Sleeping on concrete is NOT good for dogs, it is VERY hard on their joints, I have seen dogs live to be only HALF of their expected lifespan that live outdoors on concrete...this is not a good situation...do your research, and present your friend with the facts, hopefully you can change her mind.

Not allowing the dog to sleep on her bed is one thing. A bed that belongs to the dog is another. If she doesn't want to buy a bed, she can use an old blanket. If she leaves the dog outside, then she needs to provide shelter.
She may or may not ban you from seeing the puppy...but if that's the kind of friend she is, then she isn't worth it.

Get a dog bed. If your friend objects explain to her that sleeping on concrete will cause unsightly and painful sores on pressure points - hips, elbows etc and in the long run can cause more serious trouble like arthritis and that the price of a bed is sooo much less than the vet.

just kindly explain to her that you love her and the puppy and are only looking for the best for both of them and tell her about how you feel and as the dog gets older if you dont treat it properly it might rebel. Also if you and your friend are both on vacation, than most pet spas require a few items, that includes a bed.

Your friend? needs to try the concrete thing. Rescue another puppy, give it a nice life and then invite your friend? over with her puppy to show her how much better off yours is.
