Are boot camp sergeants allowed to hit the campers?

If they aren't allowed to hit you, then why would you bother to listen to them?

Negative. Drill Sergeants are not allowed to physically harm recruits or for that matter touch recruits without their expressed permission unless it is an issue of self defense or other extreme circumstances. Verbally, Drill Sergeants are only allowed to engage in certain forms of harassment, however, these forms are not crucially extreme.

Not anymore. In olden days, recruits were taught that they are not above anyone else by physical abuse. However, today, that is not allowed at all. I won't say nobody is ever beaten in boot camp. I was in the navy, and even there I saw some things (never part of) that were definitely not allowed. So to say that nobody gets hit during boot camp would be a lie. However, to say it is common practice, would be far worse a lie. Nobody should be physically beaten during boot camp. I doubt you will ever experience such actions. Drill instructors are afraid of repercussions, and will not do what they feel is unnecessary. However, if they value you, and feel a little "TLC" will encourage you to become a better soldier, they might just do what is necessary to make the you all you can be.

lol there is no such thing as "campers" its not boy scout camp, but no, in no USA service are Drill Sergeants allowed to hit recruits. If they do, it is that recruits duty to report that and that Sergeant will most likely not be a Drill Sergeant anymore. Its a much kinder, gentle military. We will even powder your butts and tuck you in at night. But a bedtime story is too much!!!

Camper? eh,eh,eh.....No can't hit, but make you wish you were hit! Camper....

Hey I am going to give you a star.

In Boot Camp, or Basic Individual Training, a new military member is a recruit. After passing the training you are then a soldier.

No they cant hit you but I would much rather get knocked out than to not listen and have to do 100 pushups. Its all about respect...you are there for a reason, to get trained and become a Soldier, Marine, or whatever service you are in. Even though you dont get beat physically in the form of punches, you will get it in another form of corrective action physically and mentally.

No they can't hit you.

But they can and will yell at you until they get obedience and they can make you do pushups, "recycle" you to an earlier group or even get you kicked out of the military, so you'd better listen up. They also can't make racial jokes or slurs (the military doesn't condone that type of behavior).

No, but they can (and usually do) make your life suck. Drill Sergeants can only physically touch trainee if they are correcting the trainees position or posture, such as during basic rifle marksmanship.
