A person who sees himself in the mirror, smiles and likes
what he sees after his first drink...after spending the rent
money, food money, money to pay the bills, money borrowed
and stolen from friends and love ones, and copious
amounts of alcohol consumed, spilled and pissed...he again
looks at the image in the mirror and sees, an insecure,
fearful, lonely person, who is yelling back at him and blaming
him for being selfish and arrogant, egotistical and a drunk!!!
but...if he could get another drink, albeit, beg, borrow, steal
anything for one more drink...everything will be alright...

alcoholism is classified as a disease, fatal if untreated, there is no cure - only remission. an alcoholic is a person suffering from an illness of the body, mind & spirit. it does not matter how much one drinks, what matters is, that a true alcoholic cannot stop completely on his own.

To me the defining characteristic of an alcoholic is one who will with awareness, put their own or others lives, either literal or figurative, in jeopardy in order to accomodate their drinking habit(s).
