IIt is okay to give them worming tablets even if you are not sure if they have them - just as a precaution.
You can get worming tablets for your cat from the supermarket or pet store, however they are not as effective as something from the vet. These days you can buy stuff that will do fleas, worms, ear mites etc.... from the vet e.g. advantage, frontline or revolution. They are usually a min of 3 months supply and usually it works out cheaper than buying lots of packets of stuff from pet stores or super markets (especially when they don't always work)

Please what ever you do DO NOT give them tablets etc... designed for humans as you may accidentally kill your moggie. Also while you are de worming your moggie you should de worm everyone else in the house hold too (A trip to the chemist here) so you break the cycle completely.

It's best not to just randomly treat. Over the counter meds are usually designed to target one type of worm. If you don't know if the cat has worms, or if it has worms and you're not sure of what kind you can always have a microscopic fecal exam done at the vet. If your kitty is current with your vet they will usually allow you to just bring in a fecal specimen. They can tell you whether or not the cat has worms, and if it does what type and which medicine is necessary. If your cat isn't current with the vet then they will want your cat to come in for an examination.

Yes, worm medications must be given as a precaution too. You can buy Drontal I guess, just make sure you use the corrrect dosage and the correct medicine based on your cat's age and weight (for example don't give Drontal before 3 months old).

if ur cat has fleas they have worms. fleas carry tapeworm and if one flea is injested then ur pet has worms. i wouldn't buy a dewormer over the counter. sometimes theyre too strong and make ur pet sick. and sometimes they dont do anything. so i would take a stool sample to the vet and get it checked first then ask for a dewormer. it usually isn't too expensive.
