when they do and they ask questions on here and misspell a few words, all of these anti's jump down their throat? I mean they're trying right? What more do they want? It takes a while to master the English language and the spelling of it! So many citizens haven't even mastered it!

If you want to be a success in this country you will need to learn English.

I think the reason is that these people haven't got any historical perspective. If your answers came from anywhere other than England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales, they probably followed this pattern:

Immigrants spoke only the old country language and picked up a little bit of English, but not enough to be considered fluent.

Children of the immigrants were fully bilingual. Their formal English was actually probably better than their formal use of the other language, of which they probably only understood a regional dialect.

Grandchildren of the immigrants spoke English fluently, and a small bit of the old country's language, which they used primarily to speak with their grandparents.

Hispanic immigrants, legal and illegal, are following the same pattern. In both cases, immigrants who arrived at a very young age have accelerated the process by a generation. If people knew all of this, I think they would be less worried that the United States will someday become a Spanish speaking country.

Also - if you don't like going into a shop and having to deal with a shop clerk who doesn't speak English, write a letter to the shop owner and stop going there. That will force the shop owner to pay enough money to find a clerk who speaks good English.

There are 3 buckets of this :

1. Typos. No big deal.

2. Several misspellings and wrong words by someone non English speaking. If their question is well intended, truly seeking answers, and they aren't trashing the US, then they get a pass. But if they are trashing the US in the process ... nope, I don't owe them politeness in return. They are getting back what they put out.

3. Gibberish. You can't respond to gibberish. It's a waste of everyone's time.

I give cretit for trying. I don't care it they try. but we get on each other for bad grammer so much, (a culture thing)that ir just comes to get on other people. this is no opinion this just the comman person that is not racist. I don't even spell the best mainly because I just don't feel like going about spell check but still it is there.

honestly, I never noticed that only happening in this forum - I notice a lot of misspellings throughout Yanswers. Misspelled words are a huge pet-peeve of mine but it doesn't bother me so much anymore mainly because of all the abbreviations people use to 'chat' or blog with. A lot of times people are typing fast or whatever.

I agree that there is a lot of people that cannot spell that are US citizens. No argument here on that issue. I just wonder if you're just looking to start an argument?

I have a personal policy about criticizing spelling.

If the person whose spelling is awful is criticizing other people or insulting them, or even better, criticizing someone else's spelling or grammar, then they are a valid target of spelling criticisms.

If the person's spelling is deliberately bad (i.e. "I no u r 2 rite") or so bad that it is literally incomprehensible, then you can politely say something.

If none of the above, it's considered bad form to nit pick someone's spelling.

I know that's right , god forbidden if someone misspelled a word , oh they will eat you for breakfast, but why don't they just correct you . I mean they criticize but of course no one tells us the correct way to spell a certain word or pronounce it
when this antis go to school do they also teach them how to be azzos ? anyway I was just thinking.

I think it is because the kind of people who do that don't really care about the illegals or anyone else's English, they Really just want to harass them.

The truth is that they are total hypocrits. They are very rude and ignorant too and they are behaving nasty here because they can. They would never Dare say those things like that in real life.
